That pan isn't notched out at all for the steering linkage. The notch I have on my 699 pan (which is identical to the 187 pan) needed to be slightly banged out to fit nicely. I can't see that there would be no interference with this one.
TTI offers 1 3/4" full length headers that claims to fit power steering. I have never seen these pictured with it though. A couple people here have said that they used them in this combo. I plan to get a set and try out when I get other things ironed out and the engine broken in.
I believe you are correct. I considered using power brakes years ago when I had an RB in my Barracuda. This is what I had (and still have upstairs in my garage). I never used it, but if I remember correctly, there was plenty of clearance.
WOW! I can't believe you had to mash the tube around your pitman arm so much. When I had used those 2" headers before the addition of power steering, I didn't have to take a hammer to anything. I guess that just shows the inconstancies in the way the factory put these cars together.
I've got a set of chrome tall covers shaped like yours on my Barracuda. Picked them up in the late 90's. I don't see many like them around anymore, and I don't ever remember seeing any with the welded tab.
They are all 3/8-16 (course) threads. As far as the length, measure the depth of the pump at the location of the bolt holes and add maybe 1/2" to have enough length to screw into the block.
In the upcoming weeks, I will be breaking in a new low deck 451. The car has power steering and Schumacher headers. I'm considering using TTI 1 3/4'" headers after the break in but I'm a bit skeptical about the fit on the car. Even the 1 5/8" tri Y's are nearly snug up against the steering box...
What header are you planning to purchase from Summit? Keep in mind that very few headers fit this application. I'd hate to see you throw money away on something that doesn't fit.
The troubling thing about this story is that TTI, as well as their distributors, are still advertising these for sale stating that they fit the short deck block. I was serious about buying these at the beginning of the year until I read this thread.
