    Route 66 Traveler's Guide by Tom Snyder ISBN-10:0-312-25417-2, is a must if you want to see ALL the original road. First half takes you east to west and the second half west to east. The most complete turn by turn manual I've ever seen.

    The later 645 rods were offset between the big end area and the beam to better clear the bigger crank counterweight of the cast cranks, (read late 340s/360s). Less density than forged steel means more size to allow balance.

    If you buy perches, get them for a Jeep CJ7 or 9. Dirt cheap and look just like the originals.

    Go to a home improvement store and buy a package of builders shims. Have someone hold the pedal down while you stick a few shims between the coils. You'll probably have to break them off to get them out of your way. When the pedal is released the spring will come right off. Leave them in there...
