Slants usually have stretched timing chains. My problem is the same as you described. I'll come to a stop in gear and it wants to stall but the second I hit the gas pedal it straightens out. Figure its a sloppy chain because when its sitting, the chain is loose and when you give it gas it...
I converted my scamps 198 to the Super six setup responsiveness and mpg increased. I get about 22 mpg in town with the 2bbl and Pertronix ignition versus the 15 I was getting with the 1bbl. The only issue I ran into with the swap was finding the kickdown linkage for an automatic. I did find it...
It's a Fram CA146 on all years of the 1bbl slants. If it's the 2bbl super six it's CA160. I think the part number will be the same on the other brands it'll just have different letters in front. :) when I had the 1bbl i got the filter (wix) on ebay for $9.
I didn't even know the 198 existed until I bought my 71 scamp and looked into it. It's a B engine code and the casting behind the alternator matches. It has the Super six setup with a carter bbd and lokar kickdown cable gets a steady combined 21mpg with the ignitor II and flamethrower coil. I...
Thanks for helping sry it took so long to post again. I am still trying to decide. I think the 276 .490 cam sounds pretty good but can you run it with a stock automatic without having problems as a dd? I do want it to sound like it has a cam but nothing to crazy. Being a Gemini I can't ever make...
LTOP I would take a blown six over a Lopez cam anyday. Lol! Do you actually drive the car around town (can you?) I can imagine it at a car show and how much attention it gets. :)
I definitely want an 8.75 rear I just have to find one that hasn't been laying around in new england lol! I went to my machinist today and he suggested that I call up Isky (the guy that started the company over 60 years ago is still there!) He also said all cams are nitride hardened (the black...
.470 kid your car is an auto or stick? I did find a .473 valve lift (@ 1.5) 256° duration cam for the slant from Howards Cams but I've never heard of them. If I go custom grind I really have no idea what to aim for. I have a stock 904 and 7.25" rear with 2.76 gears (my whole rear axle is yellow...
I was really looking at the .440 lift 260 duration 110° separation cam Comp has even if I got those specs ground somewhere else but wasn't sure how street able it would be. I have non power breaks, nothing needing vacuum (The carb is a holley 6299 with mechanical secondaries) so the separation...
I'm going to reuse the pistons. The cylinder walls look good so just going to hone them. The engine only had 42k original miles so everything looked pretty decent. I was thinking of going 30 over but that would lower compression I guess. I have the 1.70 1.44 stainless valves head milled .090...
