    Slant 6- Idle and Running

SUCCESS!!!! pishta offered up some parts including a carb and timing cover with tab... I couldn't help but think it was my economizer problem with this mangled body... which happens to be a check valve that's one of the more important parts of the fuel circuit on these 1920s... Well, I took...

Well...No :D (actually I haven't checked but I'm guessing not lol). The mechanism was rotating on the shaft.

Yes I know this story, except for their penetrate version. For something that doesn't penetrate or lubricate, it does a surprising job at both though (the multi-use version).

Thank you for your reply BillG. I blew out every orifice with air during my rebuild but I also found some pretty badly damaged parts during the rebuild too. It's interesting seeing the full history of someone going through all the carb problems. I hear that the reman ones are awful so I figured...

    That's because it's a 72 car, not a 74

Could the heat riser be related to my problems of not starting warm... Maybe stuck open and heating the intake, the fuel and the carb? It is meant to be closed at temp?

Tested various things... Here is a video and photos. https://photos.app.goo.gl/gn1vTHGx7Rx93haW6 The video shows the timing mark moving. I tested my timing light, it is working fine on my 4.7 and my wifes car. My damper can't be moving as it wouldn't be lined up to tdc every time right? The...

I'll check distributor gear, but it's rotating normally, all are firing and in order. It would have to be slipping somehow and then fixing itself for inspection. If the gear is not engaged I'd expect some other symptoms than struggling to run when warm right?

    Slant 6- Idle and Running

The rotor in the position shown is right where it was wired for cylinder 1 on the cap. Distributor vacuum is capped off during the timing test, though it does the same either way. Could be my timing light I suppose. The physics of a timing situation where cylinder 1 is firing in various...

Thank you to those sticking around and offering help!! I cleaned out a rebuilt the carb... no change. :( Two things I found on my journey... one is that the fuel line going into the carb is slightly kinked, I can't see this being my problem as I can still rev to my hearts content and it gets...

    Slant 6- Idle and Running

Thats crazy, is that because you have a 76 or a newer Valiant? I figured that my 72 was exempt with the cut off so I could get rid of everything if needed, but I also know laws have been changed since I was last in this game. I do know my 72 is full of crappy smog equipment that they tried in...

    Slant 6- Idle and Running

I won't lie, you got me pretty excited there, the prospect of a single bolt fixing my problem... i jumped out of my seat! Unfortunately I don't have any vacuum pressure at that hole and it doesn't seem to go anywhere. I plugged it with a bolt anyway and unfortunately there was no change, purrs...

That's perfect, thank you. I have enough to go on now to make my own out of cardboard, ha!

    360 and lots of questions

With those motor mounts, will you still need a v8 k frame or center link? Center Link V8 This seems to suggest its not needed, as does your post. Just double checking. Maybe just needs shimming up for oil pan clearance.

The fuel leaked directly around where it connects to the block. Old oil was checked, no gas in it. Changed the oil again, no gas in it. Changed the fuel pump, it didn't have a gasket but that wouldn't affect it if the diaphragm was ruptured. Who knows where that leak was coming from, it wasn't...
