    Yet more bearing questions?

Hi - I am circling back to my engine as I gather parts to re-assemble it. I can't find the rod bearings, Clevite CN-481HDXN because they don't seem to be available with the dowel hole. Is that something that any machine shop can do or are there specialists? I am in the Seattle-Tacoma area if...

    Yet more bearing questions?

Yes, 340 X-block with 3.46 crank. More background on this thread Old Race 340 Teardown Hmmm, hadn't noticed, good eye. I assumed they were uppers because of the oil holes. Maybe there was a design change since 1980?

    Yet more bearing questions?

I am looking at all the bearings on my x-block 355 (this was in my brother's 9.80 Super Gas car). He built this engine in about 1982 so I imagine some of the parts are going to be a little obsolete or at least hard to find. The main bearing set have P-series markings except for the #5, which...

Fascinating documentation! I've been looking for the Kit Car bulletin #110 about the 355 Engine Manual. Does anybody have that? I'm curious to know whether it was updated between W0 and W2 configurations. Photo: Scan10003 | Chrysler Kit Car Catalog album | Pat Redmond Thanks - Jim

    1975 ( Grand National Engine ) details

Sorry to be late to this party but I recently found this image listed (on Worthpoint) from an old ebay ad, so I have no more details. I'm wondering if anybody recognizes this catalog and would know whether or not it (this 1974 issue or maybe a later issue) included any SBM engine parts or...

    Old Race 340 Teardown

To me it looks like the dipstick boss (on the RH front of the block) is cast in but there's no hole - it's solid. Are you looking somewhere else? The 2, 3, 4 main webs are definitely thick and are relief cut for the main throws. Pan rail is solid in between the middle main webs. I'm not worried...

    Old Race 340 Teardown

It's a shame. I was just hoping to get the cam card. I will keep searching at my brother's house. There's still a lot to search through. Makes me wish I had recorded all the valve lash measurements before I pulled the engine down. My bad.

    Old Race 340 Teardown

Yes, good info. But it begs a question about my block. The "X" is cast into the driver's side bank rear (behind the flywheel) - not on the front of the right bank like described everywhere I've read. Also, there's no casting numbers on the block at all. There's only a small "4472" hand stamped...

    Old Race 340 Teardown

Thanks, that's an easy measurement to make although I don't have a square that is that large I can certainly get one! My question is from complete ignorance, but also because when I measured the distance between the banks at the top of the China wall I got a measurement that would seem to...

    Old Race 340 Teardown

So I just got the cam out. It's a Crane R-280/450-2S-8. I tried calling their tech support - it forwards to Edelbrock. Their phone menu doesn't include Crane support - so that must pretty new? Were they bought out recently? I found a catalog that lists the grind generically. The part number...

    Old Race 340 Teardown

The ironic thing about the headers was that Bob knew Doug Thorley, he introduced me to him at OCIR or Pomona back in the day. I'm sure that one of the creations on the Valiant were Doug's. I'd sure like to uncover those headers out in the shed. I'm sure that I'll come up with something. The...

    Old Race 340 Teardown

Thanks. I want to keep it as "old school" as I can. Will be looking for a set of W2 fenderwell headers for the 66 A-body. I have not yet found the pair that came off of it. Last version without Paxton by Jim Harris, on Flickr
