Recommended 4bbl carb for stock 318

Haven't bothered to adjust the kickdown since I'm still trying to dial in the carb, sorry sould have mentioned that. Most likely timing or something of that nature, but... According to Holley and the troubleshooting section for backfires, there is more than valvetrain issues that can cause...

Oh I know it has to tighten up, I haven't driven it and as I said I'm still trying to get the carb dialed in. Also for me it helps keep from pushing the rod back and forth constantly while doing adjustments. There are a lot of adjustments on this Holley you need to have the throttle wide open...

Yeah I should have said I took it apart after the original install to show what I did, I just took the pics last week. Back fire, OH YEAH. Super lean, it took a bit of adjusting to get it going. As it is I'm still tuning it to run just right. Ha, I'm no tuner and this is why all factors need to...

Okay…..:realcrazy: I completely forgot to post the finishing steps of the upgrade. So here we go Initially I asked about a recommended carb, and received lots of feed back and recommendations. It would seem the best carb to go with should be based on the final point of your upgrades, basically...

Motor dies when gas pedal pressed

I had a pretty much the same issue. :BangHead: And on that problem I got a lot of good feed back from a lot of guys here. If anything the best advise I got for a good running carb was the original with a rebuild kit and a good cleaning. However it is always good to check your plugs because they...

They will for sure make power (it my me vey little) if they are clean flowing (no lip restriction) or they flow enhancing. Increasing the space or distance between the carb and runners allows for better atomization. But you can only go so far. As for an adapter or riser get flow enhancing...

I put mine together and after a few tries of the different linkages it is perfect. There is no changing of throttle cable position, end connection location/type, kickdown linkage (with an adjustment), or vacuum lines. However you do need to bend the fuel line a bit to get into place. The...

Oddly enough, I don't think it will be used again so I am going to try and sell it. What do you think a good condition carb like this would go for.

Actually I do have the adapter plate for square to spread, and I thought I mentioned that. So basically I can run any spread or square bore carb.

Sorry I have to make a correction.... I was obviously overloaded at the time. I meant to say I have a double pumper as well as that Holley 4160 600CFM VS. The double is an 850CFM Holley which was tried as a joke a while back and the boxed is the 4160.

The Slant is leaking from the Carter BBD

Well I am going through a carb learning session currently for 4bbl's but I've been using a slightly newer model of that carter for a long time. I've use old original, remanufactured, rebuilt and smog version. My suggestion would be to clean the whole area with brake cleaner (careful of hoses)...

I'm not against having a Thermoquad, I asked around for a while locally but no one had an extra carb and online was just overpriced rebuilt or unknown quality used one. Actually I would like to have all three types just to be able to learn more and be able to put a better 2cents in for questions...

After all the great suggestion from you guys. Cost was a contributing factor from the start all along with the size, type, and brand of carb. I am having to go in a bit different direct to maximize my savings for future parts now though, So... Currently my decision has landed on the 4160 with...
