what's the worst thing mopar has done?

-
My list:

1) Hiring Bob Lutz

2) 4 door Charger

3) killing the E-Body

4) killing big blocks

5) giving every boring piece of crap fwd 4 door an "R/T" option

the sebring as well... the sad thing about this thread is it points out how much bad mopar has done. but of course, its done a hell of a lot of good. i suppose its just done alot...

wha?!

i believe you meant to say, "vinyl tops are awesome, and the day that mopar gave up on them, they immediately went down the tubes."
ok some tops are cool but the one that killed my roof on my duster can go suck a dick !!!!! Ha ha

For 2011 the SRT cars get a 480 HP 6.4 hemi.

Do you think that might put a stock SRT in the 12s?? So tired of hearing the horror stories of the 425hp SRTs not being to break out of the 13s. Sad...

I guess it took a 400+ HP base Mustang GT to light a fire under Dodge's butt.

while I like the '67 up K memeber, I miss swapping motors with only the change of factory brackets...

and all sb v8's should have had 340 manifolds.

and the lifter angle that robs lift.

still better in SO many other ways than most anything else.

Not building the cars customers want. Not listening to the general public and build something someone would actually buy. Bankrupt, go figure. :bootysha:

where do I start; (in no particular order)
1) killing the BB and sorry it happened in about 72 or 73 when they detuned them so badly I think they must have done that knowing they'd only be making them a short time longer and detuned them to the point of being no better than a good smallblock thinking they'd be "missed less"

2) killing any RWD except for M bodies during the 80s and making them so pathetically slow that not alot of people wanted them; (2.26:1 rear gear? Lean burn? C'MON NOW!)

2a and 2b) see the end of #2 and 2c) the TBI setup as used on 88-92 trucks

3) that damn 4 door "charger"; them extra doors will guarantee me to never want one!

4) depending so much on mitsu over the years

5) killing off the Ramcharger and the B van; they shoulda kept the Ramcharger as a 2 door variant of the Durango

6) what's with all the crew cab trucks? I love trucks but have no need or desire for 4 doors on one.

7) not having a RWD "mini van" I mean the Astro wasn't too bad and we put up with the Aero-flop for too long.

8) going in with Mercedes

In no particular order:
Dropping plymouth
Dropping rear wheel drive
Dropping direct connection
Those stupid cross hair grilles on everything except the challenger
Merging, merging, merging!
The prowler, ugly and underpowered
Lean burn
Rubber floor mats (guaranteed to rust floors)
Vinyl roofs with bondo in the seams and no paint or anything on the roof to protect from rusting
Wiring power through the ammeter
small bolt pattern after '66 on a-bodies
There's many more i can't think of right now, but the worst thing hands down was.....

Destroying all of the tooling for the cars from the muscle car era including hemi stuff, and especially sheet metal tooling.
We're a lot better off these days thanks to AMD for the sheetmetal and the aftermarket for reproducing a lot of needed items for our restos, but in the '80's, we were really screwed.
I'll never forgive them for that.
Tom.

I'll agree with 2 and 5.

Iacocca was convinced that RWD wasn't the way to keep the company going, but a small segment of the buying public still wanted it. Plus the cop market. Iacocca stated his dislike for RWD, so is it any wonder that the M-body was never improved upon?

Even rebadging the Durango would work. Mexico did get a 2 door Durango badged as a Ramcharger. But even for that, with the success of the Tahoe and Expedition, Dodge's absolute reticence on continue to build a full size SUV off the Ram platform was mistake in my opinion.

Having said that I'll guess I'll throw in my two cents

The death of the E-body. Sales were off across the board for pony cars, but saw a revitalization just a few years later. Mopar was left out in the cold when it happened. The F-body was no replacement, considering the reputation for rust.

Replacing the Neon with the Calibur. I can hear the naysayers now, but the Neon really did have a following with the new generation. Like 'em or not, these kids are the future of the hobby, especially the ones who know what they're doing. Taking the one car in the line up which could be bought inexpensively and modded is basically telling them "we don't care about you."

Marketing. I swear, Chrysler's marketing division sucks. They have built some good products over the years. While some may not agree with me, my family does run newer Mopars, from minivans to SUVs to econo-boxes and they've all been long lasting, tight built cars. But the marketing on them just plain sucks. What the hell is with the new minivan commercial with the people wearing masks and calling themselves mice, cats, and dogs? What does that have to do with anything?

Focusing on making their financial statements look good back in the 70s rather than focusing on building good products that would sell well and make their financial statements look good.

IMO Chrysler has been a financial train-wreck waiting for a time and place to occur. Since WWII, Chrysler has had some great designs that were undermined by cheap materials and poor fit and finish.
