home defense or carry iwould use the 38 all day for everything, with proper round {once again you get what you pay for ] home defense 410 shotgun to a 20 guage shotgun cant be beat, as long as they are maintained. but a revolver normally wont let you down. you just have to have a presence of mind to use correctly .definently hold on to the smith, that is a very nice piece/ autos have been known to jam in inexperienced hands .and thats no good for someone without alot of firearms experience/ simple is best and training to use a must, hope you never have to fire in anger or fear and also if you have any doubts in that smith take it to local gunsmith have him check it out i own one and it shoots great easy recoil and loud as hell while promoting fear lol stay safe
