So, I don't have the VIN handy right now, but I have all the numbers off the fender tag- does anyone know where to find the breakdown for this? The car is a 69 Barracuda 340S.

R11 V7W END
G33 J25 L31 M21 M25 M31
AO1 B51 C16 C55 G15 G31
F8 F8 H6F F8 AO3 B02389
E55 D32 BH29 P9B 159902

The reason I'm looking for this information is because the car is for sale and a gentleman who is looking at it believes it's not a 340S. Now, his actual words were that "it's not a true Formula S", but I believe he's confusing a 340S with a Formula S which are two different models- correct? I have another 69 Barracuda 340S as well and it is identical to this one (except for color).

Really hoping someone can help with some info.

Thanks,

Mark

340s and formula s are the same thing. If it is a true formula s it will have the option code A53 which I dont see on your tag. I will try to find you a decoder

Thanks for the info, its what I was looking for. I entered the numbers and came up with same info as you and it's pretty much what the car is. Looks like its not a true 340S.

Thanks for the quick help- appreciate it.

Sounds like the owner is confused between a 340-S and a Formula S. They are not the same, as you likely know. My car is a 340-S and it has no options other than the 340 engine and 4 speed trans. A Formula S is a much different animal.

That car is a true 340-S and it has no Formula S option; it is correct to say it is not a Formula S. But then again, it was not built as one! :)

Can you elaborate?? I believe the 340-s and formula s are one and the same for 69 A53 is option code for formula s, which is the option code for 340-s?? A 340 car is depicted by the "p" in the vin.

A "P" in the vin designates a 340 car, not necessarily a Formula S.
You could get a 340 without ordering a Formula S or a 'Cuda 340.

A53 is a Formula S, and could either have a 340 or a 383.

The data book states that the 383 was only available with the Formula S or 'Cuda 383 package, yet there were 182 notchback 383 cars built in 69 that were neither a Formula S or a 'Cuda 383, (no fastbacks or convertibles built).

The Formula S cars for 69 had, among other things:
Black rear deck applique
Formula S medallion (on the rear deck applique)
Black radiator grill
Engine identification (on the front fenders, 340-S or 383-S)

You could also get the optional full length sport stripes which incorporated the engine displacement in the stripe, 340 or 383. My understanding is if you ordered the stripe the 340-S or 383-S emblem was deleted.

A56 is a 'Cuda 340.
A57 is a 'Cuda 383.
A13 is a 'Cuda 440.
