SB 727 .. problem. Help please!
So I have a 72 Duster that I race only bracket race in an 1/8th mile. I've never encountered a tranny problem until.....
Last winter, I re-did my engine. Car previously had went a best of 7.05 and a worst of 7.33. Had my heads worked from 260 cfm at .600 to 294 at .600 and intake was port matched to the heads . Installed a bigger cam.. and new bearings, rings, oil pump, and all that stuff down in the bottom end.
First outing this year.. I didn't change anything carburetor nor timing wise. Same set up as last year. Car went a 7.37 first pass. Changed the jets one time.. car went to a 7.28 with 1.63 60 ft. Last year, it went a worst of 7.33 and that was a muggy july day.. almost 100 degrees. It was a 60 degree evening and the car was running almost 30s. I figured something was going on with my tranny.
I sent my converter off to PTC in Alabama. They said everything looked great and tightened it up a few hundred rpm. Flashes at 5200. Well, I went to the track a few months ago to bracket race the duster. Car was running in the 7.33 to 7.36 range. I was racing a maverick in the fourth round and went .022 in the tree.. went to hit second gear and it seemed like i went to neutral! I let off it, then hammered back down and it was in second, slammed third and luckily took the strip by .013 because he slept in the tree. car went a 37 on a 33. Fifth round.. I hit second again.. having no idea what had happened previously. When I hit second.. it was completely gone. I let all the way off it.. started rolling and slowly got back into it and second was there. didn't feel like it was slipping. I checked my linkage and everything is good.. hasn't been messed with.
What do you think is going on with this tranny? The car should definitely be faster. It def. has more compression, better heads, and more cam and it's running slower. Could it be slipping? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Joshua
