While driving the Duster I noticed it was a little louder than normal
(what's normal) Anyhow on the passenger side exhaust manifold
has a bimetallic spring and rod that popped out of the manifold.
Is this a heat riser set up ?? Or is it some kind of smog equipment
for emissions. Can I pull it out and cap it? Thanks guys!! 8)

I will probably pull it off this weekend, and cap it, but what is this

for?

Its a heat riser, makes for a nice blockage in the stock manifold and when its closed makes exhaust run through the crossover in the intake manifold when its cold better air/fuel mixture=lower emmisions warms up quick etc. But as for performance. The two dont go together.

Thanks, for the updates fellas, I removed a few of these risers
on brand X cars but not on any mopars, just wanted to make
sure thats what its for. 8)

I know this reply is about 3 years late..lol...but how would you go about removing this or atleast keeping it open all of the time? My right side manifold on my 318 has one too.

if it still moves its pretty obvious how it comes apart once the manifold is off. if its froze up it shuld be open and will probably not really cause a problem.
I have seen them pluged in various ways. Ive seen little expanshon plugs, like a mini freze plug. Ive seen them drilled and tpped for machene screws (5/16 i think) , others for small pipe plugs. ive even seen the holes welded shut.
