Hello folks,
I am new to this forum. Looks like a ton of good info around here. Thanks for having me. So, I have this 68 Barracuda convertible. Motor for the top is super slow, so slow in fact it won't lift the top without assistance from me, while the kid holds the toggle. So, I have no shop manual yet, can anyone assist with a pdf, or other resource on the details of this motor, fluids, access etc.? Thanks all. Will catch up to ya soon.

The same thing was happening with my Dart when I got it. It was just low on fluid. I used plain old type 'A' Automatic Trans Fluid.

From my '64 Dart shop manual:
Insufficient fluid in system may cause top to raise slowly or cause noise in the pump and motor during operation. If low, check for a leak due to broken line or loose connections. Replace line or tighten connection as necessary. Fill reservoir until fluid runs out of filler hole. Use type "A" suffix "A" Automatic Transmission Fluid. After filling reservoir, raise and lower top several times to force out air that may be trapped in system. Always check fluid level when top is lowered.

I have a parts manual on cd I can burn a copy for ya if you like. Shoot me a couple bucks for postage and its yours. The manual covers 68 and 69. If ya pm me include your email address.

I would agree that low fluid would give you the symptoms you are describing. If in the future it turns out something has failed in the pump, you may consider looking in to a pump from a Sebring convertible. I am sure one could be picked up from a salvage yard pretty cheap. I noticed the one in my 68 and the one in my 04 look pretty much identical except for the electrical connector.

That kind of great information is what makes these internet forums so valuable. Thank you for posting it here!
Anyone who's lived with an 'unusual' car that's not GM/Ford can appreciate how valuable this kind of info is.
I also have a '57 Studebaker Hawk and finding some convertible-specific parts for the '64 Dart is sometimes a lot more difficult.
