Ideas on 360 build

I just got to thinking that maybe a 318/390 stroker might be a good idea,since I can keep alot of my engine components and not have to buy alot of extras.I just bought the car so I don't know alot about it yet but the guy claimed it had a 340 cam and heads but that very likely was just sells talk.But even if it was I have some 360 heads I could have reworked and cams aren't to expensive.To all the guys here with a 318 stroker(nothing to wild but just a nice 318/390 stroker kit) What kind of performance are you getting,compared to a good built 340 or 360?
If 1/4 miling, go for the 360 with the 340 cam from 68-71. Put on the 340 heads, which will need the 340/360 valve springs and rockers. I did a similar set up and used a 360 2bbl manifold and 71 360 carb. Got 18mpg and a good street performer.
