1974 Duster/1986 Dodge speedo cable swap...trans end the same?

Guys,
My son's '74 Duster used to have a 225 L-6, but the previous owner swapped an '86 Dodge 318 and (I'm assuming) 904 trans into it....and never attached the speedo cable. Just what I need...a teen with no speedo! :-D

After doing a little research, I discovered the cable that guy stuck in here is the '86 model---it has a little nut at the speedo end---and it should correctly have the plastic clip-on/slip-over cable version, instead. Picking up a new cable is cheap, but I wanted to know if I should get one for a V-8 Duster in '74....and if I do, will the trans end connection be the same as on the '86 trans?
