I thought that I would put this out to everyone to get some good ideas. I'm storing my dart at a local storage shed and have had a past problem with mice in the headliner and heating ducts. The storage area has a concrete floor and stays dry so I don't have to worry about much rust but those damn mice. I have cleaned out the car once and cleaned up the headliner but I want to avoid any future problems. Please share any success stories from traps to chemicals, etc.

A local guy suggested putting the car up up on jackstands with the jackstands sitting in a metal drain pan filled with oil. Said he has been doing it this way for years with no mice troubles whatsoever.....

Thats a unique approach, I have heard mothballs too. How about this:

Drive on it and zip it up.

That would be cool is Space-bags made a huge car size bag: drive into it, zip it and suck it tight. Top of the line '57 Caddies were delivered in velvet bags.

Bounce dryer sheets

X2 on the dryer sheet's They work, just buy the cheapest you can get and put them under the seats and everywhere :-D vent's, trunk. It will work wonders

Couldn't a mouse just jump off the floor, into the engine compartment, get behind the fenders and make it's way into the passenger compartment? The oil trick would keep out ants..... I have also heard rodents can't stand the smell of fabric softener sheets.

Bars of soap too works well. I have heard that the mice might eat that but I am sure it will make them sick and they will leave. All I use is lots of Dryer sheets, under the seats, in the glove box, on the floor, in the trunk etc. Also flip your sun visors down, they like to nest ontop of those and get in your headliner, besure to close all your windows and vents. I also put mice traps around the outside of the car, get the bastards before they even get in :snakeman:

Yep,I use the Bounce dryer sheets and put them everywhere in the car.Under the seats, glove box, trunk, under dash.I put extra around my plug wires, air breather, for some reason they really like to chew plug wires so I wrapped abunch around them too.I hate the smell of moth balls and refuse to use them.

Yes I,ve also heard they don,t like Irish Spring soap bars as 66340Sedan^^^ mentioned, but haven,t tried the soap.I,ve heard to shave the bar with a knife,so to leave strips throughout the car.

I heard the dryer sheets work great and the mothballs also, the drive in zip bag looks awesome but mice might chew into that

I always had a mouse problem in the same spot. They pull the under hood insulation down and nest under the throttle linkage. Dryer sheet on top the breather stopped it. So now I put dryer sheets in and out. The inside of the car smells like a french ***** house. I wonder if they had mouse problems. LOL

i store my cars in the pole barn, moth balls along with dryer sheets seem the best.
i also leave a cheap radio on 24/7 don't know if it helps.

I use to do the moth ball trick too when I kept me car in my dads pole barn. The only thing was that my eyes watered so bad from the odor trying to drive the car in the spring that I couldn't hardly stand it. The smell never really left totally either. So I started keeping lot's of decon and mouse traps all around the car and caught them that way and that kept them out of the car. Be SURE to lower your sun visors down too because they will use them as a support in the headliner to lay against while they CHEW through your headliner. Speaking from experience!!

I put mothballs around the inside of the barn to help keep mice out. Irsh spring and dryer sheets in the car. so far it has worked.

put 2 rodent bait stations in the corner of the building with rodent bait blocks Inside, it will wipe out the population and keep working

I'm going to try the dryer sheets thing for good measure though I haven't seen any rodents in my garage yet.

I've had them in one of my sheds though... BTW, I found those Victor sonic rodent repellers to be a joke. The mice pretty much had a dance party right in front of them. So I put poison in front of the sonic things and they at least drew the mice to the poison. I returned them anyway. The neighbor's outdoor cat has been taking care of a lot of the mice now too.

We had a cat for years. She got far too lazy to chase mice but we never had mice anywhere. Now that she has died we've had mice getting into the shed and hanging out at the wood pile. I guess just the presence of a cat must keep them away......

This. Kill um all, let God sort um out.

Thanks to your recommendation in the other thread, I did that this year and didn't use the moth balls, like I have for many years.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Bounce dryer sheets x2

I keep 2 cars and a boat in a metal barn with a cement floor on our farm. Had mice problems a couple of years ago. Started using bounce. Trouble free since. It works.
