I saved this 61 Lancer a few years back from getting crushed tried to sell it but no takers so I decided to redesign the roof line and rear-deck area here it is in process, I held a weekend seminar for guys to attend to learn how to do metal mods to an old car, they all learned a lot and had a great time as well! I'm planning about five more classes on this project through out the winter and spring.

Kinda the same as my 62 Valiant chop top.I took 3 out of the front and a little over 2 in the rear.Guzzi Mark

Kinda the same but yet different, I keep the front and rear glass untouched leaned the post back and slanted the rear forward take a good look at your roof skin and imagine reversing it, front to the back and trimming a bit out of it I think look better that way.

That car would make a nice Hot Rod, great job..

I like what your doing. At first i looked at like i wanted to see a fastback. Your not far off. Shows some neat lines. Kepp cuttin. You aint done are ya?
Small Block

ehat else do you have planned to do to it? i think that a nice sectioning would look good if thats within your capabilities. wish i was in nebraska so i could attend the classes. keep up the good work, you should come up to new york and start a wyo tech type hot rod school god knows we need one of them up by us around the city. id be the first to enroll. ;)

Hi:

My grandma had a Lancer way back in the early '60s, maybe a '60 or '61, I didn't think much of the car then, but like lots of things, I really appreciated the lines now! I seem to remember her car having a fake continental spare embossed on the rear trunk lid, am I imagining things!??

Cheers

Imagining things! Valiants had the ring and only the 60 61 models. Lancer never had a ring. Could have changed the trunk lid, cause they interchange. My Valiant had a Lancer Trunk years ago. Cheers! Stay thirsty my friends!

Thanks guys good to hear you like the redsign work, no this car is far from done. I'm planning four or five more classes, and redesign the front end, hood, fenders etc. wheel arches need raised and opened up, doors will be lenthened, and slanted back just a little so rust repair and dents will be repaired as well. The goal is of course for guys to gain experience in custom metal working, cutting welding, body work, and so on. I get to use my imagination to create! No this is not my first Rodeo I've been cutting and reworking restoring cars for 30 some years, it's just fun to do these classes and see others get a chance to do what they have dreamt of doing for years. Classes are open to anyone we have had guys drive over 140 miles to attend, why not make a weekend trip and fly in from whereever, my shop is a mile away from the Lincoln, Airport and there are plenty motels right down the street, My friend Speedy Bill owner of Speedway Motors and his world class Museum of American Speed is right down the street and a must see for all car guys, check it out http://museumofamericanspeed.com Just a thought.

Keep going like this and you'll have people wishing Dodge had used your design as the 2013 Dodge Caliber [21st Century Road Toad IMHO].Love em both so take that as a sincere compliment.
Offering for guys to help so they can learn things: you have to be Santa himself. The gods of auto will look kindly on you for sure.
Best luck with this and please: lotsa pictures
PS: how are the windows going to operate ? I have always wondered how that was done with chops.
Best,
Dave

Thanks again guys for the comps and approval it's a late night on a rough day working a paint job on a half million $ vintage Ferrari, (stinking Italen cars anyway!) taking a look here at the post puts a smile on my face thanks for the encouragement! Guys like me do things like this modified Lancer just to create and hear others comments, the positive one pay the cost of doing the job. :salute:I'll try to post a few more from the class and then after the following classes maybe by summer it will be looking good enough to think about a drive line. We might need some help from someone with deeper pockets then me to fab in a late model Hemi drive line and interior well just dreaming there but I would like to build it into a nice cross country driver with modern comforts and cruise to some major events,

You, this car and your crew are going to be famous in Mopar circles. You're off to a great start and all that good car-ma you're putting into it can only come back 1000 fold. Look forward to the updates

The Lancer will be coming back into the shop for phase two of it's redesign process. Again I will be hosting a weekend workshop Jan 29 & 30 th for up to six guys to come in and learn custom sheet metal work, we will start in on the front end redesign process should be interesting!

i see you have mustang rims,,,must have changed it over to big bolt pattern,,,,

cant wait to see more love those cars

The Lancer Project is on ice for now but not forgotten about I just have so much customer work to get finished and keeping up with the bills right now plus the city wanted to tear down my warehouse I rented from the local airport authority, try moving 20,000 sq ft of vintage automotive scarp cars spare parts equipment and sections of old barns! yeh it takes a bit of time I hauled in a lot of scrap metal & parts, but put the Lancer in a safe for now place. Many be in a year or two I'll get caught up and bring it back in for more redesign fun!
