beaters what options do us mopar lovers have?

-
pick up a 1990-1994 plymouth laser rs awd, they are awesome cars if you do the maintenence, and are all wheel drive, turbo, and pretty quick even stock. look around, and might get one for about 1200

I do real well with the '89-'95 Mopar A-bodies (Spirit, Acclaim, LeBaron sedan). Just picked up a damn-near-perfect '91 with 15k original miles. They're durable, dependable, comfortable, competent, cheap to run, insure, and fix.

Find a Feather Duster or Dart Lite- best of both worlds:cheers:

Mine, well going to be when I get my licence (very soon:clock:) is going to be a '91 Ford Ranger XLT......4 cylinder, 5 speed man., 7ft bed. I got it for free thanks to my uncle:cheers: and its real solid for being a northeast car:cheers:

How about an a-body mopar with a /6, easy too work on, 500-1500 for a driver, there mopar, Ive even heard theres a web sight just for them L.O.L. I bet there is at least 1 with in 100 miles of your house, I just traded a 71//6/scamp(2 door) that I paid 600 for a 90 short box dodge. I just look on my local craigslist.

hands down if you want a DD that is fun to drive. Get yourself an srt-4. I have driven them they are a blast. And you can make em fast to smoke all your buddies in hondas.

As stated before, 95 to 99 neon. Hands down. Cheap to buy and repair, and get great gas mileage. I would do that waaaaaaay before I bought a k car.

What's wrong with a K car? I had a 1988 Dodge Aries that I paid $700 for with 49K, drove it for a few years, when I was done it had about 300K on it, and still ran strong. I took that thing off jumps, drove it through mud bogs, beat it up hard, and it still started up for me every day, and got me to where I needed to go, with no problems. The only thing that went was part of the wiring harness in the engine bay melted once, but that was a cheap fix. Just pulled one from a junkyard.
I ran that thing damn near dry of oil a couple times, forgot to check the tranny fluid a couple times, and again, never let me down.
I then sold that car for $900. Pretty good, I'd say.

I am guessing by your sig. that your dart has a 225?

If so you need to learn to tune it.I constantly got in the 20's with my 70 dart 4 door, and it has a/c(that worked and I used)and power steering. If you need better than 20's for mpg,get a K car or neon as stated above. The neon and PT saved chrysler,it was not a turn for the worse,it was a much needed change to stay alive in a mpg market.

Our local definition of a "beater" is a vehicle you wouldn't think twice about driving to Mexico because you wouldn't cry if you had to leave it there! The only Mopar ones listed above that meet that definition to me are the Neon's and K-cars.

my dart does have a slant six but i would be buying a beater so i could take it off the road to do a 318 swap.im really liking the avenger and daytona there pretty decent looking cars a neon is just not gonan happen i wouldnt be able to bring myself to buying one lol

I'll vouch for the daytonas also, especially with the turbo or even the v6 was a quick little car with very respectable gas mileage. I had an 88 shelby z with the turbo 2.2 and my brother had 92 with the 3.0 V6. Both very fun rides. I broke a lot of stuff, but that was more my driving than the car. My brother did have the tranny replaced, but that was it. Unfortunately, the A Slip oh 4 (A604) tranny did have some growing pains in the early 90's. Parents had a 94 spirit with the 3.0 and the 4 speed. Did the tranny in that too, under warranty. Have you looked at the cloud cars? Cirrus, Stratus, Breeze all decent cars and I'm sure you can find those cheap.

I used to have a '93 Dodge Stealth (3.0 SOHC non-Turbos)... cost me $1500, I loved that car, but it kept me busy. I spent alot of weekends at Pull-a-part because of that car... I sold it awhile ago, Found some old pics! :

I have a 95 Neon Sport 2.0 SOHC 5spd 225000 miles gets 36 mpg runs great looks like crap, but thats a beater. Picking up a 98 Neon R/T tomarrow for $800 cos its cheap and after driving them, you find you actually like them!

There are plenty of Caravans out there for under $2000. You might get one with a 3.0,3.3 or 3.8. Mine has the 3.8 is a grand caravan and a sport. It gets 16+ around town and easily 24 mpg hghway, closer to 34 on the prairie.

You also get really comfortable drivers seats. Ac is standard. 7 passenger seating or pull/fold the seats and have room for drywall, plywood, transmissions, engines, camping gear etc etc etc.

Parts are cheap and repairs easy.

my dad has had 5 dodge caravans lol and the older ones are great on gas but hes got a 2001 right now and its a pig on gas mind you he hasnt done any maintance ever on it probaly the root of the problem right there but anyway i was cruisin through craigslist and came across the mk3 supras i know i said i wasnt gonna look at rice but 230hp and still gets good mileage and targa top how can u beat that lol DAM YOU TOYOTA lol anyway anyone ever had one of these?

When I was driveing 430 miles a week to and from work I bought a 97 honda civic was a great car to me 35mpg with all the acc. ac ps and when I got laid off just recently I traded to a guy I worked with for a 2001 Dakota R/T so it really turned out for the best. As far as domestic goes I really dont like anything neons are ok But, I do think honda is the best if you just need gas mileage

1994 Dodge Shadow 2.2L auto. Bought it in January for $350, just rolled 99,000kms and I'm still into it for under $1500 with buying some tires and doing some minor repairs and maintenance. Not bad for almost a year of driving. Its not powerful, but its dependable and bullet proof.

I would be hard pressed to back to a carb for a daily driver, love fuel injection, especially in winter, starts right up, and stays running. Currently drive 98 Dakota v6, before that a 95 Neon, the only problems I had with the Neon was when I traded it, it was in need of it's third head gasket (around 120,000) and it was a 2 door with no air, impossible to get any type of circulation in the car and had a thumping noise from the wind with both windows down.

i loved my plymouth acclaim, bought it for 800 good gas mileage fine in the snow, heat was great. i have a problem with leaving anything stock. dam i miss this little bugger.

get an early neon, its what Ive got!
mine is a little over the top but its VERY fun as a daily driver/beater

mine....
runs 15.0's on crappy, missmatched, street tires
gets and average of 33-34mpg
out does most 'performance' cars in the twisties....three wheeling, for the win!
Im into the whole damn car about $2000....including 2-extra engines, 2-extra transmissions, extra axles, all the ACR upgrades, 5-sets of wheels/tires

cheap, fun, reliable, and available

see my sig for details on my car

run 13's for less than $1500...

Im impressed by the bottom end torque of the 3.8 litre in my grand caravan. Granted the motor is all done by 4500, but the van moves not bad at all. I think a home made cold air intake would help it some:snakeman:.

Dodge Dakota 4cyl or a K car. I have a 95 caravan. 3.0 v6 with NON electric 3 spd auto

All I know is my 5sp 88 accord lxi still gets 32mpg on a 210,000mi engine and has only had service type stuff done to it. I have a love hate relationship with the car I love it for the millage and hate it because it's front wheel drive.

I am driving a 1988 Chevrolet G20 Work Van as my "daily driver" This truck only cost me $800.00 but has paid for itself X 10! V6 4.3 liter automatic. All I have done to it has been starter and radiator, tires and had A/C refurbished.Regular oil changes. This little shorty van laughs st weight. I can load it up and no problems. I have drove this van to Massachusetts and back as well as use it every day in my business and drive it all over NC, VA, and SC. I know it's not a Mopar but I couldn't touch a Mopar Contractor van for what I paid for this. I am not a Chevy guy but this truck is "like a rock". I'll drive it till the wheels fall off of it.

i stil dunno about the neons i just couldnt bring myself to spending money on one i just dont like the looks of them and ya the dodge caravan is pretty fun lol but your right its only good til about 4500 but its pretty peppy off the line
