Yep, that's right folks THIS Sunday afternoon you'll see some hot rod action like you've NEVER seen before! Hop in your cars and come on out to my place and see the amazing fight to the death CAGE match between Man & Machine! You'll see wrenches flying.....you'll see bloodshed.... you'll probably see a grown man cry...... You'll definitely see a Mopar Performance cam shaft get beaten into the ground like a tent stake. Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

Yeah, today I get to pull that sunofabitch apart again..... Motor comes out, the wheels come off so I can powder coat the rims this winter, and maybe resurface the flywheel while it's apart. I'm just trying to keep a sense of humor about it 8)

Wish me luck....

Id rather be working on your fish then on my Chevy Blazer.

Yeah, us poor `Cuda bastards are in the barrel again, going off a cliff. Your Chevy is clogged, my car is dead, and Brett's refuses to behave....

Maybe I should just sell everything, buy a set of 18"'s for the GTI, a body kit, and a nice Milltech exhaust system..... Chip it.... cold air intake....small N.O.S. system.....

SLAP!

uh... thanks honey. Good thing my wife was looking over my shoulder. I'll go fix the `Cuda now. :eye:

Picked up the hoist at 10:00am
Had the transmission out by 11:30
Swapped off the tires and rims about noon
Engine was out by 2:00
Had the garage cleaned up and the car stashed away by 4:00.
By 5:00 I was ready to go home. All in all, a good day.

With the intake off I can see where the lobe went to hell.... Nothing big drained out of the pan. Oil does look like metal flake paint though. I might change the clutch set-up too. My Centerforce pressure plate is burnt in a few spots. The flywheel has a few minor spots too. So far, I foresee cam & lifters, clutch, block boiled w/ new cam bearings, new crank & rod bearings, gaskets. If the cylinder bores look good the pistons will get disassembled and cleaned. Should I stay with the rings I have? If the walls are good, I can't see replacing the rings. Naturally I'll mark everything so it re-assembles as it came apart.

And so it goes..... Damn Car !

Wife made lasagna for dinner. Ummmmm... :drunken: a good finish for the day. :thumleft:

So how much blood was shed John?
If you were closer i would give you a hand with that Fish!

Thanks Kev, I know you would help if you were closer. Bloodshed was non-exsistant. Didn't even get a scratch.... Probably one of the smoooothest days yet working on that beast.

Too bad it's an autopsy..... :puker:

At least it came apart smoothly  If the cylinders and rings look good, just clean out the block and stickem back in :thumrigh:

Glad it went smoothly. Sorry it had to be done at all.
Myself I had a bad day at the track Sunday. Will post later.
:salut:

Never put used rings back into an engine you want to be sealing properly.

If the pistons come out, deglaze(hone) the cylinder walls and re-ring it.

With less than 50 miles? And no visible scoring of the walls?

And a wiped cam and lifters?

Yeah, ya got a point.

I stopped at the garage to take out some trash tonight and I pulled off #1 & 3 main bearing caps while I was there. #1 was almost clean, and #3 was about as fonged-up as #2, which was toast. Bearings don't lay in the main caps either, they're kinda curled up. I know I should just drag the whole %$#@#$% thing to a machine shop and say "fix it" ..... but the pockets, they not too deep, eh? :|

i would leave the rings alone, the chance that the rings or pistons, cylinders got scored is slim to none. i wouldnt even pull the pistons out. i would just pull the crank and have it checked to see if it needs to be cut,and put it back together with new bearings.leave the heads on also,if you need a hand let me and adam know we are only 45 minutes away....

Wow, that's a great offer! While I promise to come up to Marcus Dairy next summer for a cruise night, I wouldn't impose on you guys coming down to work on my engine. I still have to TOTALLY rip it down and have a looky-look inside the bastard. All the chattering from my end is just incomplete information. I'll know what to look for. I'm just mentally preparing myself for a worst case scenario.... :silent: Besides, I like posting with you guys :p

Thanks for the offer!

And BTW: You can go from Danbury to Queens in 45 minutes.....

Who prepped your motor?
That thing had a pile of metal go through it. Remember that the rings were being lubricated by that metallic oil as well.

When I prepped the motor it was spotless..... After the cam/lifter failure it's loaded. Like I posted earlier, after I totally disassemble it I'll know for sure.

I'm just sooo annoyed at the thought of replacing so many new parts.... and I know I might HAVE to.

jet me know when you start to pull it apart, il take a ride down.i think that your cylinders will be fine, the bearings get the oilpressure, so i would definatley change the oil pump, cambearings, and rod and mains, but leave the pistons in the bores. ............and clean out all th oil galleys with brake clean and compressed area after you take the crank out....

Just as a note, brake clean will not work on internal engine cleaning for all purposes. If the engine has been bored the cylinders will only come clean using soap and water, brake clean will not work properly.
