Voltage regulator

Charging amperage doesn't flow thru the voltage regulator. It just reads the batteries voltage and engergizes the field windings with a certain amount of voltage to control alternator output. It acts like the thermosat on the electric furnace in a house. The thermostat is a low voltage/amperage device to control the high voltage/amperage furnace.

Still a good idea though to check the wiring on our older cars on a regular basis.
