It's 2:26am Do you know why my car wont start?
My 05 truck PCM did not have SKIM thankfully so I didn't have to worry about this, but I think I found some useful info.
Here's what I found in my 05 truck service manual.
When the ignition switch is turned to the On or Start positions, the SKIM transmits an RF signal to excite the transponderin the ignition key. The SKIM then listens for a return RF signal from the transponder. If the SKIM receives an RF signal with a valid Secret Key and transponder identification codes, the SKIM sends a valid key message to the PCM/ECM over the PCI bus. If the SKIM receives an invalid RF signal or no response, it sends invalid key messages to the PCM/ECM. The PCM/ECM will enable or disable engine operation based upon the status of the SKIM messages. It is important to note that the default condition in the PCM or ECM is an invalid key. Therefore,
if no message is received from the SKIM by the PCM or ECM, the engine will be disabled and the vehicle immobilized after two seconds of running.
It does say you will have a VIN MISMATCH DTC if the VIN in the SKIM and PCM don't match, but it doesn't say it will prevent the engine from running. I think it is the same system as all the chrysler vehicles with SKIM.
On a related note when I was testing my wiring setup I wired in a truck instrument cluster to try to monitor things. I knew the VIN didn't match so I didn't know if it would work at all. If I plugged the cluster in after it was already running it would work so I could check temp, oil pressure and voltage, but none of the gauges worked if it was plugged in at startup.
