Im trying to decide which carb to go with on my 340. My goals are for a mid 12 second street car with good throttle response and torque while keeping it pretty much stock looking.
The motor is
.030" over 340,
11:1 compression.
Cam will be a Hughes Solid 242/248 @.050" .543/.563" on a 106lsa
ported iron heads flow 260I / 180E
gasket matched LD340 intake
TTI 1-5/8" to 1-3/4" headers

904 with a 277 first gear
391s with a 26" tire.

Adam. I have a Demon on my first 408. This time, it will be a Holley. 'Nuf said.

Adam I like the AVS for adjustments and the mods. Ease of use and seems to stay in tune better than a Holley. But the AFB is just as good minus the lack of secondary adjument. Howeverm you can drill out the counter weights in a afb to tun it as well, it is just more work though.

Bottom line is that they are all great carbs once you get them dialed in. It just seems from experiance of 30+ years that the AFBs stay put a little better interms of stability.

have the same cam in my 360.have ran the 750 vac secondary and a 750 double pumper.both worked very well.so if it were mine.i would run one of the two.

I have a demonsizzler carb on my pretty well built 360 and it is awesome, plus it is really mild if you stay out of the gas.

running edelbrock 750 on mine... ( 71 ) 340, (40 over) ...360 ( J ) heads
edelbrock TM-5 intake ... 284/484 cam , Forge pistons.. 4sp... 3.91's

good set up for the street... :blob:

Edelbrock M-1 intake?????????

Adam, I have run all 3 carbs. Wait, I still have all 3 carbs. A Carter 750 AFB and a OE-750 AVS and several T-Q's.
The T-Q can be a pain in the *** if your not used to tuning it. Just a learning curve for some.
I like the AVS over the AFB for reasons stated above by djwhog. The AVS was nicer on the manual trans car. The T-Q seemed to have unlimited top end. (I also like the deep howl of it, but thats really neither here or there.)
I like to have several jets and rods for fine tuning during the seasonal differences. Mid summer is not early spring. You can get T-Q parts, they just come in the mail a little slower or from swap meets. You need a vannth guide to help search the meets for various T-Q for the rods and jets. What ever Demonsizzler has, you can ask for.

Just placed an order for a demon Sizzler Thermoquad. Small primaries for the street and 910CFM for the top end. :angel9:

Adam, do you have a link handy to the build specs? Cam specs?

It willl feel explosive up top and in the midrange with the T-Q. That will be alot more stretable than the larger one.

Explosive is a great way to describe a TQ ...and I aint being funny...:D

Its how they run.....but some would say its how they burn too....

Me? I like to run 'em.
