9 1/4 rear end

They are C-clip style rear ends so if an axle breaks, the whole axle will shoot out the side. They are also very prone to rust out inder the spring perches. Other than that, they are strong rears but ratios and diff availiblity are somehat limited. Not my first choice for a car that would see any strip duty.
I agree it's a less desirable design but I've never actually seen a Mopar 9 1/4 pop a button or break an axle. Has anyone here seen one? I take it back....I did see one axle shaft break off....it was a pickup truck that someone was severly overloading and the axle bearing went bad. The guy kept driving it and when the bearing started coming apart, it overheated and locked onto the already severely grooved axle shaft and the flange broke off with the wheel still attached. The bearing spun in the housing too so he needed a whole rear end. I think that's the only 9 1/4 I've seen go bad except for ones run without oil.
