My son found this on the Mopar Nationals Official website. I don't approve of street racing but who decides what normal acceleration is? Please contact your local Ohio senators and tell them how bogus this really is!

Ohio House Bill - 191 - IS BAD NEWS for Car Enthusiasts! Write the Senators now before they vote! If you live in Ohio or you come to Ohio for a car show or car related event, make your voice heard! When the Ohio Senate comes back into session after their summer break (September) they will take up the vote on HB 191. It rewrites the definition of Street racing from two cars in a side-by-side competition exceeding the posted speed limit to a single car accelerating more than "normal". If caught it mandates the seizure of your vehicle, puts the same charges against anyone "encouraging the act of Street Racing" and bans nitrous oxide from being installed on any vehicle driven on the street. Write the senators NOW and ask them not to pass this bill. It affects anyone who lives or drives in Ohio.

In many states, reckless, negligent, and "exhibition of speed" are ALREADY to the point of being ridiculous. Many of these laws has language that is so broad and so vague that nearly anyone is at the mercy of a pissed of cop's interpertation.

Define " normal"....

Normal to a loaded semi or normal to John Force ??'

Another reason I moved out of the Gestapo State.

Ugh I really hate these types of law is all the officers opinon and there really hard to enforce. Another reason why they should leave the law making up to smart people....

One thing about the "taking away your guns" the Brits tried this and it more then doubled there gun crimes and everyone was getting robbed out the *** cause no one could stop them. In America if I was thinking of robbing someone I wouldnt know whats on the other side of that door. Could be both barrels of a 12. Just my cents

Yeah they MIGHT have to move the mopar nats if this goes into effect cause there is no way I would set foot in Ohio if this POS bill passes, Anyone that has gone to the nats and not gone to Brice road???

Here's the deal on that.
I'm pretty sure that it went back to a committee due to some Judicial concerns.
Petitions were being signed at a ton of car shows to include the Mopar Nats. Senators were being written and I personally ripped my Rep a new *** at a car show this summer. He made a comment about "all of the lovely cars" at a 4th of July show. I let him know what I thought about his vote.
All of this is over some broad in Columbus Oh was hit by some "f"ing ricer was drunk and hit this chick in his rice buggy.
The vote was 90-7 for the bill
On a side note, this came up with another bill to ban **** fighting and that passed 79-19.
Just to let you know where Ohio has it priority's.

So are you saying the bill passed 90-7?? cause that really sux if it did. I read about the ricer that hit that lady, just goes to show one bad fortune cookie spoils the batch..
I am still going to the Nats 2011 anyway, year of the Duster and all. thanks for the update (i think).

In Ontario,Canada if your going 50km(30mph)over the posted limit. It,s considered racing, wreckless driving, dangerous etc...etc....They can impound your car, heavy fines and if your going way over the limit they can squish the car.Too many speeding imports ruining it for muscle car owners.

It passed the house, now it goes to the senate - one more chance left...

This sucks as I just made a major commitment to stay in the state, had I known about this before, I may have decided to move out...

I think it went to the state senate and they sent it back to the the commission.
It went to state senate in September.
There was a lot of opposition to the bill. A lot of petitions circulated and signed.
I'm pretty sure it's in limbo right now. Not dead, but not active, yet.

Yet another reason for me to move out of Ohio.

Any new news on this Bill?

I gave this Bill a quick thought. Like with taking away gun rights the legal owners of guns are not the problem. The same deal here an idiot with some Fast and Furious import who was also drunk killed someone. Now not everyone with an import is an idiot but I don't know how many of those 80 hp cars I see trying to race eachother and everyone.

IMO Nitrous is the perfect adder to let the idiots have because if things aren't right they will blow up their cars.

How does Ohio as a State attack car enthusiasts? In Norwalk, OH is one of the top dragstrips in the country Norwalk raceway park now called Summit raceway park. That place has plenty of car shows and other events in just little Norwalk, OH.

Two of the major parts suppliers in Summit and Jegs are based out of Ohio. Those are 2 of primary suppliers for car enthusiasts throughout the entire country and perhaps worldwide that if I was them and this bill passed would move right out of the state. Heck everyone/everything else has moved out of the state why not Summit, Jegs, and have all the owners/operators of dragstrips move to another state.

At what point does the fallible and most likely biased opinion of a Police Officer outweigh "Beyond any reasonable doubt"?

It's dead.
The Ohio Senate did nothing with it and it died in committee.
That is until the next bleeding heart brings it it up again. :angry5:

Back in the day, Cruise Night on Van Nuys Blvd.

My friend revs it up a few times at a stoplight and gets a ticket.

Get this.... " instigating a race "

Goes to court and asked the judge where in the vehicle code or traffic laws does such an infraction exist.

Judge sided with the cop...... $140.00

This is during the time the city was trying to shut down cruise night on Van Nuys Blv.

Wednesday night was cruise night, "Every business was open" and the street was so lit up it looked like daytime.

People brought lawn chairs and staked out spots to check out the action.

The food places were jammed with people, all the businesses were doing great business...............

It was just great.

Then the city decided we were just having too much fun.

They started writing tickets to anyone, even people who just came out to check out the cars and get a bite to eat.

The city and the cops managed to ruin a tradition that was in place for years.

Back in those days Van Nuys Blv. was Clean, businesses were doing great business, everything was ideal.

If I posted photos of Van Nuys blv. today you guys would turn your heads away.

It's a Filthy mess of closed down businesses, pawn shops, porno shops, and clapped out small mexican businesses where on the outside there is not one word in english.

Last time I was there looking down I saw a Mc Donald's bag in the gutter, it was so faded it was nearly pure white.

How many months does that take?

You guys know me by now, I don't stay quiet.

I saw an LAPD cop a while back at a hot dog stand,
so I say "hows it going?"

He says "ok" , I say are you old enough to remember Cruise Night on Van Nuys?

I was a kid he says, but I heard about it from my Dad

I ask, " did he tell you that it was the greatest thing ever?

Yeah, he says, he was there nearly every wed night, him & his friends.

So I say, "Back then the street was clean and businesses were doing great business"

I go on, "look at Van Nuys Blv. now, if you wanted to give the state of California an enema, that is where you would stick the hose"

"The crack down on cruise night turned a clean business district into a blight on the whole valley"

The cop says, "yeah,... you're right"

I make the following points...........

1) You can be written a ticket for "anything", even tickets for which there is no law on the books, and it will fly if the judge goes along with it.

2) You can count on city, county, state, and federal government to act without thinking things through.
( and never admitting to the mistake afterward)

3) This is why the system here in the US was originally set up to be..........

"A Government Of The People, By The People"

We have lost our "voice", ..... it's time to start screaming.
.

Virginia has it if you get a ticket driving over 100+ MPH its a street racing ticket..

Well, it should be. anything even approaching 100 mph on public streets is just a disaster waiting to happen IMHO.

This whole topic gets my ire up.

Not just at the lawmakers, though. Some of the blame has to be put back on us.

There is one local cruise here (last year was likely its last) where people were gathering for years...in fact it is the first cruise I attended and the one that got me hooked enough to look for my car.

It is usually a quiet and calm event. People usually mind their manners. Located in a restaurant parking lot near a major, busy road. The cruises were held on Tuesday night as I recall and started at 5, went til dark.

Well, people started deciding it would be cool to use the adjoining road as a drag strip....showing off for their buddies.

Mind you, this is in rush hour traffic, on a major thoroughfare.

The organizers had to start making regular announcements over the PA to remind people not to do burnouts and what not.

The fact that anyone had to be reminded is enough to give some support to why the cops and local governments want to tighten the reigns.

Its all fun til someone get hurt or killed.

I am not saying this particular Ohio proposed law wasnt BS...it was...but if you look at it objectively you can see why they were trying to do it.

We need to police our own, otherwise it will be done for us.
