Hair Cuts at Great Clips (or where ever) do you tip?

I use to work at a retail Hair Salon like Great Clips and expected clients to tip me. We made a low minimum wage so we counted on those tips for extra money. The only way I would think you shouldn't tip would be if you received poor service but then a small tip would be nice. I use to work on people for hours and not receive so much as a $1. Other times I would color a guys hair with Just For Men hair color you buy at the store and he gave me a $10 tip every time. Tips are just supplemental income to that hourly wage retail hair salon's receive. I am assuming it is still that way. I haven't worked at a salon in 13 years. Just a thought, if you go to the same girl/guy every time they will remember you tipped and they will give you extra customer service.
