Hair Cuts at Great Clips (or where ever) do you tip?

-
2 on the side and 3 on the top. $15 plus a $5 tip every other month. I figure it makes up for the 30+ years in which I spent less than that in total on haircuts.

For a $15 haircut, I tip between 4-5 dollars. I think a $5 tip is even acceptable for a 20 dollar haircut. I had a $10 haircut yesterday (2 on the bottom and sides, 8 on top), and I tipped $4.

Bottom line, always tip for a haircut, even if it's just Great Clips.

My wife cuts mine and I give her all kinda tips.

A good barber is worth more than a doctor or lawyer , I always tip , except the old guy who tried to massage my shoulders that was just creepy ,it takes a while to find the right barber in a new city but when you do it's worth paying more to keep him in business

I bought my $40 clippers and have shaved my head for the last 10 years. I figure at 10 bucks a chop and i do it monthly.

10 x 12 months = 120 a year
120 x 10 years = $1200

Yes i tip myself all the time. With a beer or a playboy

Unless your hair cut looks like this, then you should tip. MMG

Yeah, I give them tips, but they don't listen

my daughter and step daughter both cut hair, daughter is like a area manager for great clips and step has her own salon

I went to the barber last month since both girls had been busy and i was getting past my 6 month hair cut. Told the barber I wanted a 6 month haircut, He gave me more like a 7 + month haircut, still looks like crap. Yeah I tipped the guy it looked OK when I left, but you know you got to wash it and try to get it to lay right

I'll wait on one of the girls next time

They do appreciate the tips. Great Clips doesn't pay them that good, they have 13 to 18 minutes to cut it and get you out of there for the next person.

My step, she has done very well for herself over the last 20 years, pampers her customers and most have followed her thru the shops she has worked at until last year when she opened her own shop. It is more than just snip snip. Knowing how to snip, knowing what to look for in possible problems with your scalp or hair

and dealing with bitchy customers with a smile, standing on their feet all day and the carpel tunnel from holding and using sissors all day

so a tip if you are happy is little to pay

3 to 5 bucks depending on how good the conversation is. And also if she uses scissors and takes her time.

I got myself a #2 buzzer that I use every few days and about once a month I have the gf straiten up the neck area.

I have to keep it relatively short because I don't want it to get caught in a fan belt or something + it keeps the cost of shampoo down.

I don't understand this tippin concept. Well with wiat staff I do cause they don't make minimum wage. That's different. But a barber's job is cuttin hair. Just like my job when I was workin was a line mechanic. I rarely got tipped, although it did happen on occasion. I say they oughtta just do their job and not expect it. My wife works in the auto lein department for our local huge conglomeration hospital. she doesn't get tips from any of the attorney's offices she files leins for and gets millions of dollars each year for. We do have a local barber shop I used to go to before things got so tight. 15 bucks a head. that's what's on the sign and that's what I always paid until my wife started cuttin it.

I've been tipping $3-$4, but guess it should be more after reading this thread. I go to a barber shop two doors down from the Hair Cuttery I used to go to. Same price, shorter wait time, and ESPN on the big screen TVs rather than idle conversation about the weather. I do always feel like I'm overcharged though. After all, do you pay a landscape company the same price to mow the front yard of a town house as you would for mowing a two acre lot?

To quote Steve Martin, "It's not tipping I believe in. It's overtipping." I always used to tip the gal at Great Clips $5. Same with the waitress at the greasy spoon where we eat on Saturday. I figure they need to feed their families too.

Last year I bought a Wahl clipper and trimmer set at Wally World for $40 and haven't stepped foot in a clip joint since!!

Tips, YES. Hair isn't a real important factor for me seein how does one improve on an already studly image. LMAO...I make a visit about once every two months after i have trimmed it over that time with the small mustache clippers. Then it starts to get thick so i go and get it thinned and trimmed. She buzzes the growth on the face while shes at it. I do the cheapy place at a whole $6. I leave her a $20 because after all, she does show some cleavage and my arm stays on top on the arm of the chair. Really it does. Funny thing is the little gal asks "Are you rich". My reply is "No, but i'm very wealthy". Fun post guys.
Small Block

Yes I do because if I don't she gives me hell when we get home Ha Ha !!
I am in the same boat as you:toothy10:
My wife owns a hair salon and is the only employee and she keeps her prices down because of the tips.Oh by the way next time you go and have your hair cut,ask the girl how much some of those tools they are using on you cost?

I am a MAN, I will not spend more than $20 on a haircut.

I frequent a BARBER SHOP where they charge $11 for a cut and even straight razor finish on the back [neck].

I tip $5-$9 depending on my general mood and if I don't have to wait forever.

I give myself a haircut every morning...with my free razors I get from summit.:toothy10:

I have a whole basket of them in the bathroom.

I use to work at a retail Hair Salon like Great Clips and expected clients to tip me. We made a low minimum wage so we counted on those tips for extra money. The only way I would think you shouldn't tip would be if you received poor service but then a small tip would be nice. I use to work on people for hours and not receive so much as a $1. Other times I would color a guys hair with Just For Men hair color you buy at the store and he gave me a $10 tip every time. Tips are just supplemental income to that hourly wage retail hair salon's receive. I am assuming it is still that way. I haven't worked at a salon in 13 years. Just a thought, if you go to the same girl/guy every time they will remember you tipped and they will give you extra customer service.

I cut my own hair till I have to go some where that some one is setting our standing behind me, I have to agree with Daredevil on this one, if the conversation is good she get's a 5 dollar tip, if she don't smile and talk to me she get's a 3 dollar tip, but lets face it, it takes every bit of 3 minutes to cut my hair. Yes Tip!!!!

I used to get my hair cut from the owner of the hair salon. I didn't tip him, but if for some reason he was not available one of his employees would cut my hair and i would tip them. After all the owner gets most of the money anyway in a busy salon.
