can someone tell me exactly what a 340 wedge is. i have a 1971 340 with 340 x-heads, don't claim to know everything so your input would be helpful. :

I believe wedge refers to the head design,

Your engine is a wedge. A wedge is an engine with the valves inline like the 340. The big blocks are wedges. The HEMI is not, the early 277, 301, 318 "Poly" engines are not. There canted valve engines or also known as semi HEMI.
