All I can say is that it's pretty close. I think you could fit an air cleaner under there, but you would need a pretty small one that's pretty short. The old cleaner is around 3 inches above the carb. The stud that the old cleaner mounted on just clears the hood, but not by much, probably a half inch maybe and I think it's probably about an inch and a half above the carb. The hood slants down though toward the front, so if you had a circular cleaner that was moderate sized it might hit on the front. It would be a tight fit regardless though. I think you could run a carb hat and a cold air tube if you wanted, but it wouldn't have that classic look.
