440 budget build
I would definitly use the J 3800 stall, the M1 might be a better choice over the torker, I would say the 750 will be about the best, but it wouldn't hurt trying out the 950 just too see how it compares, the car is "light" no doubt, if your not hefty lol, that set-up should see high 11s all day long if your closer to sea level, 1500 ft. or lower.
What is the accual compression?
Just to give you an idea on this, I've built a few BB A bodys, my last was a 75 duster (in my sig), before any upgrades, It had a FT 451 low-deck no thrills combo, Ross pistons (9.73 compression) & "un-ported 906 heads with the stock size valves, My race weight was 3100 & change, bolt-ons, M1 with a swap meet 750dp, XE284H cam, ductile rockers, 4.10s on a 28" tire, The converter was a low budget PTC 11" 3000 stall, once i got a few things worked out, better 60fts., I ran a best of 11.12 @ 120 at Ennis raceway, had a 1.57 60ft., i shifted at 5600, the car worked well, there is no reason that car should not see 11s period.
Had a 73 Swinger all steel & the big *** bumpers, car was abit heavier but never weighed it, basic 440 with KB FTs, .509 cam, SD intake, 850dp, 3.91 gears, 28" slicks, 4200 stall (boss hog), so low quality converter, Now the clincher, The Alt. was 3700ft., in most cases the DA was 4800-5200ft., Car ran 12.4s @ 108 back too back, At ennis it would have run 11.8s easy.
My last car was a 71 Swinger all steel, dropped in a junkyard 360 magnum, RHS heads (stock valvetrain), very mild re-ground cam, Crosswind knock off RPM, 650dp, 3.73 gears, 27" DR, PTC 11" 27-2800 stall, 904 trans, I'm guessing the cars race weight was 3200, The tracks Alt. is 1400ft., With DA around 24-2600, the car ran 12.5s @ 105, I shifted it at 5100, it was out of steam at that point. So if all your 440 will run is low 12s over this piss-*** SB i had, I'd go back to the drawing board, MANY on these boards said i would never see a 12.99 with my last car, I let off at the 1000ft. mark & ran a 12.70 lol.
These are just a few examples, it really doesn't take much to run in the 11s with a BB A body.
