Evening folks. I've been reading all the threads on 1966 Cuda's here and am stoked about what I see! I found one here sitting behind an old auto shop and unsure if the price is set right. The cuda in question has a slant six mated to the original auto transmission (904?), all the glass unchipped and no cracks, seats, tires, etc. It's not running and had been sitting in a barn for about 10 years before being pulled out to this shop. Price on it is $1750 and is pretty firm from what I gather from the guy. He's had it on CL now for about 2 months so that got me wondering.

Now, the car is in pretty good shape from what I could tell. Like most barn finds it had it's share of critters finding their way into it, flat tires, cob webs, dust, rust, etc. The main selling point from this guy is the glass, kept saying the glass alone was worth the price. I don't know about all that, so that's why I started reading the site. Seems like the glass is hard to find, but isn't all that hard to find. Am I being naive on that point? Is the price about average for a find like this?

Well what you show pictures of is a well worn Cuda with a Valiant grille in need of work. I say if the car was up here it would fetch no more than 1000 dollars as pictured.

Scrape together a couple hundred more dollars and get one that runs and drives. You'll be many $$$ ahead and actually enjoy the car while you work on it.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciate the quick responses. I was thinking the same thing on the price, but didn't know if that back glass was worth it. From what I've read, that sucker is a beast and is HUGE! And I thought the back glass on my 76 Chrysler New Yorker was big! hahaha.

I may still look around and see if he comes down on the price or if I find another one that really calls out to me. I figure if the family are going to shake there head at yet another car, it might as well be one that I just couldn't pass up. *sigh*

Man, that myth about the glass from these is still swirling around after all these years!!!Case in point...

I saw a clapped out 65 Cuda in a town near me with an old faded for sale sign in it. I called and asked the price...$4000.00!!!OUCH!!! I asked why it was so much and the owner stated that the rear glass alone was worth $1200.00. That old myth ticks me off, so I offered him 3 back windows in trade for the Cuda. I think that pissed him off because I never heard from him and now the car is gone!! I was offered 3 rear windows at the Nats a couple years ago for $50.00 for all 3!! So, how much is the glass really worth?? I'd say about $200.00 for every piece, given that all are in good, UNSCRATCHED condition and are all tinted!!

His price is too high, hence the reason that it has been on craigslist for more than 2 months. I agree with Chryslerfat, it's a $1000.00 car, maybe up to $1200.00 if you REALLY wanted it!! JMO, Geof

DON'T DO IT! Understand that I really like '66 Barracudas and Valiants but there's nothing special about it, no V8, no four speed, no AC... it looks like a nice solid project but a '66 Barracuda project is a money pit that will never be worth 1/3 what you put into it (so you r need really really love it to get something like that car on the road!). The glass isn't worth much either, yes it is the largest piece of auto glass ever made but there are just too many around.

To me that car is a glorified parts car and it looks like some of the good parts are already missing, the Barracuda grills are gone and replaced by Valiant grills.

If you take your time you'll be able to locate a nicer car that is running so you can enjoy it immediately for $2000 to $2500.

This site might help you find one -> http://www.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.c...966&ye=1966&ps=&pe=&pgs=100&submit=++++go++++

hell i had rear glass for one of them laying around for years. i couldn't give the damn thing away. everyone said they never break. and ya know what its rare ya see a broken one. at least in the yards around here anyway.

If you were a little closer, I'd sell you one of mine! The body parts are harder to find than the glass. If it's rust free, the price isn't ridiculous but there are better buys out there.....especially if you want a V8 car in the end.

That car is way over priced! These guys that are not Mopar guys all think that rear glass is worth $1000-1500. You can check ebay just about any day of the week & get one for $100. Those drama queens on Desert Car Kings tried to act like those windows are impossible to find & are worth $2500! Than they intentionally broke one on TV for the added drama (if you slow it down with a DVR it looks so intentional it isn't funny). Who leans a 5" bumper on a 4" support pole? I wish I could get even $500 for the extra I have.
I found a '65 Barracuda abandoned near me in a parking lot last year with only 3 tires on it, no motor, no tranny, interior trashed & the DS quarter panel caved in like a tree had fallen on it. Friends told me it had been sitting there for years & I should just drag it home. I decided to do the right thing & track down the owner. A few weeks later I am on the phone with the guy & he wants like $3k for the car because the rear window alone is worth $1500. Whatever, keep it! Now a year later the same car has been for sale on craigslist for $2400 for months now & no one is buying. If you are dealing with a guy that thinks that rear window is his retirement fund, walk away & keep looking.

Lots of back glass out there. The trick is to find it local because no one's going to ship it. When I bought my 65 Barracuda a couple of years back it came with 3 of them.

walk away ,much better deals out there.
there is no shortage on the glass stop in i'll give one.
car would look better with the correct grill.
just my 2

Thanks to all those that have posted. After spending about 9 hours reading other threads on here related to various Cuda's, I've passed on this one at this price. Sure it'd be nice to have and fun to work on, but not at that price. Heck, this is a C-Body buy used to getting complete big block running cars for $600! hahaha.

I had a friend from college pick one of these up for $1300, running but all four tires flat, and swapped the /6 for a 318. It's been a fun little car to drive and I was figuring on the same thing. Oh well, I'll just keep looking.

On the grills, how can ya'll tell it's a valient grill? I've been pouring over tons of pictures and see a few different styles on the cuda's.

Blue car...Cuda 'french fry cutter' grille... silver car...Valiant grille!!! Geof

Geof, how long have you had the convertible?

Just a couple months now, but I had the chance to buy it a couple years ago and passed. I guess I just can't say no to any Mopar anymore...gone is my willpower!!!LOL!!! Geof

I understand completely. I have 3 now and am always looking for a place to stash more. just need more time and money to finish them.
