for muffler choice get on youtube and go listen to diffrent setups. Listen to cars and trucks as they all have the same motor. I personally like magnaflow turbo mufflers. Once they get most of the glass burnt out they are not too loud at idle but scream at wide open throttle. They have little to no drone while putting around witch is nice too. They will seem really quiet at first but give them time and I think you would be happy in the end.

Yeah, I've done that some trying to sort out sounds. There's just a lot of variables to keep track of. I think most of the ones I hear are on stock cars and trucks with cats, and I know those affect the sound quite a bit as we have a 2004 Ram with a 5.7 and I can run open pipes after the cats and it's actually pretty nice sounding and not really that loud. I've heard glasspacks on a truck that sound awesome and ones on a car that sound like crap. I think the camera that takes it probably has a lot to do with it too.
 
Looks great. Just what till you get to drive it with the 4 speed.
 
A little update with some more pictures. I got a homemade throttle bracket and return spring setup going that should get me down the road fine. Maybe some time down the road I'll consider getting a prettier one, lol. The cable was a Spectre universal piece. The original cable was waaaay too long even at 24". The final one ended up closer to probably 16 maybe, didn't really measure it. The first picture is pre-wiring and the rest of them are as it sits right now. One of the pictures is the wonky Z bar setup I have. It seems to work fine though, so as long as it does its job I'm happy. There's also a picture of the dual fan setup I have. Probably the luckiest I've even gotten with this car so far. I bought the fans for my Corvette because I drive it in parades and the stock fan just couldn't keep up at idle. However, the electric fans would never turn off once they clicked on, so I ended up pulling them and just cleaning the radiator out real good and putting in a flex fan. Figured I'd try dropping them into the Dart for the heck of it and they actually fit exactly between the upper and lower tanks. I didn't even have to mount them, they just kind of pressed in, lol. Managed to find a steering shaft, just waiting on delivery now. Hopefully should be able to get it to the alignment shop this weekend and exhaust next week. Then I can terrorize the town :burnout:

Car looks killer man. Hopefully I'll see it at Set 'Em Up's this summer and get the chance to visit with you a little bit on the swap. Looking at doing the same thing eventually on my '70 Dart, or possibly on my Duster.

Good place for a remote oil filter.

The glass fuel filter is gonna catch you some serious flak :angry4: I'd run a little metal one down low right after the fuel pump. The glass ones supposedly break and spilt fuel on hot engine = bad. The actual use of the glass ones is to be used on boats. Just aheads up, no offense meant

Actually it's a 71 Vette (you can sort of see it in some of the pictures and the video), the name is just something I've used forever and I didn't want to have to try to remember a different login, lol. I actually got the fans for Christmas a while back, but I think they were just a generic Summit brand setup.

I didn't know about the filter, I'll have to look into that. It actually came with the car when I got it, so I've just been using it. The clear part is nice though, because I can already tell I need to clean it out after cutting my lines to patch in the new electric pump.

Yeah, they are actually nice for when you work on the fuel system because of that and the little refill filters are cheap, alot cheaper than a bunch of the metal filters. But eventually you will need to switch to the metal can style for safety reasons. My Chrysler Auto Program teacher had his car catch fire because of one of those filters cracking and spilling fuel onto hot exhaust.:angry9:

Pretty sure these are the fans http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G4852/?rtype=10. I can't guarantee the fit on a regular A body setup since I'm almost certain my radiator isn't out of an A body, but I'm sure you could come up with some kind of mounting. For anyone who's ever worked on a C3 Corvette with the slanted radiators you can imagine the fun I had trying to get the dang things in and out of the car. Pretty much have to pull the whole radiator to do it without breaking things. They just dropped right in the Dart, lol.

Yeah, still doing the first Saturday night thing. They're going to have a lot of competition on the 7th as that is Topeka's downtown cruise night. Usually a pretty big turnout. You ought to try and make it up there if you can.

Not sure if the coils are messed up or just another wiring thing. It ran fine last time, so maybe the exhaust is messing with it. The old system is 2", so I know it's a big restriction, but I wouldn't think it would knock out some cyilnders.
 
That's cool. I'll definitely look for it out there. You should be able to have it figured out by then. We also have a Mopar car club that meets up in Topeka. It's RPM (Regional Performance Mopar) of Topeka. Meetings are the first Tuesday of every month. Have an all Mopar car show planned at Brigg's Topeka for the end of September. You might check it out some time if that sounds like anything you might be interested in. I know there's a website and a facebook page for it.

I think I may just be flooding the thing too. Pulled some plugs, checked the coils, and put a laser thermometer on the headers yesterday and I can unplug one coil without it making much difference to the engine speed. Checked it with some plugs I had laying around and it looks like it works fine. Pulled the plugs and they were BLACK. Turned the idle screws way in and will probably take the choke off and give it another go today. Going to see if I can salvage the plugs for now since I'm pretty much flat broke at this point and 16 plugs takes its toll on the pocketbook, lol.

Been thinking about the Mopar clubs around here for a while now, just haven't really had the car to a point where I wanted to go yet. Was looking into the one in KC (HPAC) and maybe Topeka too since I'm right in the middle. Wish there was something here in Lawrence, but I figure I have the Set Em Up Jacks night for something at least.
 
Wondering now if I might be over-pressurizing the carb. I don't see any fuel leaking with the pump on and the engine not running, but only the passenger side seems to be having a problem, and that's the side the fuel feeds from. The driver's plugs all looked okay, just a little rich, but all the passenger side plugs were black. They didn't look wet necessarily, but they were all pretty dark.
 
Well, got a new fuel pump and the steering shaft today and took it out for the maiden voyage. Blew the patched exhaust off hitting second, lol. Clamped it back on tighter and kept going and it's quite the ride. First gear hauls, think I definitely need a new exhaust system and maybe a tune to go with it though. An alignment is in the works tomorrow, so hopefully it will be a little easier to drive, lol.

Rebuilt the carb and messed with the accelerator pump some, but can't quite get the problem to go away. Hoping a new exhaust system will help some of the issue. Took it out for more of an extended drive to break it in and it's a blast to drive aside from the tuning issues. Hit the gas at 70 on the highway and it still has plenty to give.

Just need to figure out my tach issue now so I can keep tabs on what the engine is doing.
 
Nice swap....but you certainly have a fondness for rubber hose that I do not share. Same with the glass fuel filter.
 
im taking lots of notes here,its threads like this that makes me pretty sure about what my next build will be! and i agree about those clear fuelfilters,had one comeapart dripping fuel on warm headers,not a fun situation..

Yeah, I would have gone with braided hose if there was a place around here that carried it in stock and I had the extra money. The oil filter kit I got came with the rubber stuff so I just used it and I just cut down the heater hoses I already had on it. The fuel hose I will probably change some day and I found a metal filter to put on, but I need to track down a fitting first to hook it into the system.

I think I know what you mean by a flapper valve, but I haven't really done any adjustment on anything and it's a Carter AFB that has the weighted secondaries, so it's not that easy to adjust. The spark curve is the stock one that comes in the MSD box, and since I haven't done much to the engine I figured it would be fairly appropriate. I figured I'll try to track down a tuning shop and see what it would cost to get it dialed in.
 
This video has been a long time in the wait, but I finally managed to grab one of the exhaust system I put on the car. TTI headers, 2.5 inch pipes with H pipe, and "turbo tube" mufflers from the local muffler shop. They look like glasspacks, but are a little more mellow and are supposed to keep the same sound and not burn out. I took the video with a cellphone camera, so the audio is a little weird. It sounds really mean on my computer with subwoofer soundsystem, but I don't think it has quite as much low end sound in real life. It's really nice around town though, pleasent to cruise with but gets loud when you get on it.
