Carb Question

I have a 74 225 1bbl that im having some trouble with. Its a Holley 1920 carb i believe, and for starters the choke is not hooked up. My problems are with hot-starts and overnight starts. Its acts in the morning like it runs out of fuel takes me prob 8 to 10 2 second key turn overs to get it to start, like it needs to prime up, once it fires i can keep it running no problem. I have tried to turn it over longer to prime but seems to make no diff. so i dont to keep the starter cool. I drive 18 or so miles to work no problem, if i start it at lunch time it will fire in 2 or 3 tries, if its sits all day till i go home its the same 8 or so starts as in the morning. If the engine is warm and i shut it off to go to the store or something for 20 or 30 min it will not wont to restart then its real easy to flood out and then im forced to pull a couple plugs out and dry them and it will usually restart. It acts like fuel is boiling? I dont know, it did it to me yesterday and i looked in the carb and the accelerator pump sprayed fuel so it wasn't strving for fuel. I could not get it to restart even pulled the plugs, finally got fed up went in the house for and hour or so came back out and 8 or so tries later it started. I have done the fuel line mod and i have the thick carb gasket already hopefully some one can help me understand more of what this thing is doing. Thanks in advance J.R.
