Wanting a 18x9f 18x10r wheel setup am I crazy?

-
My wheelwells are rolled and there is about 1 3/4" of room. I would say no on that one.

Something doesn't calc out here. When I run the numbers, using a 59.5" OA axle, these wheels with a +41mm offset and a 275/40-18 tire, I get about an 1" clear at the fender lip on my Duster.

Swinger, you're running a stock A-Body 8.75" axle, but is it converted over to BBP? I've got a buddy with an 8.75" axle and green bearings, and his measures something like 58" wide overall. Any chance you could get a good drum to drum measurement? It's been my experience you gain a fair amount of width converting to the BBP with an A-Body 8.75 axle.

jr, as I remember you are putting an 8.8 in a Duster, right? If so, pretty sure the Duster is going to have more room in the fenders than the Swinger. Just a thought.

No promises, but I would guess that those wheels would work fine on a Duster with an Explorer 8.8 axle. Wouldn't get crazy with the tire width, though.

jr, just noticed you reference a Swinger in you signature. Must have you confused with someone else.

I am putting an 8.8 from an explorer in a 72 Dart. the rear I have is 59.5" wide. I can cut about 2.5" out of it real easy and use a stock, off the shelf axle (cheap).
An 8 3/4 at stock width is 57.125" wide, converted to BBP, probably looking around 57.5".

I would agree, but like I said I measured one that came out at just over 58", drum to drum.

I also know that Wracks71 is running (or was) a converted 8.75" and only need an 11mm shim to clear the stock location springs with his 17x9, 275/40-17 and +24mm offset package. He shouldn't have been able to do that if the axle was only 57.5" wide.

I am using BBP Moser axles and green bearings. I measured with a tape jr and came up with 2" to the outside of the wheelwell from the outer lip of the wheel. You might get away with a 285/40 but it would be seriously tight withat axle. Ive seen some Mustangs with that tire on a 10" wide and the sidewalls barely stick out beyond the wheel yet look good together.

What size do you plan on running?
Sumitomo tires are reasonably priced on tirerack.com, not the best quality out there, but will get you by. Also check ebay. A lot of tires can be had there for a cheap price.
Im planning on 275/35 and 295/35s :tongue9:

Any chance you could get a drum to drum measurement of that axle?

Have you finished fitting the front wheels and checking fitment? I'm looking at some 18's with 7.125" of backspacing, 45mm offset, 18x9.5. Considering putting these on my 73 duster.

I'm mostly concerned with the tie rod clearance & clearance with wheels at full lock; any other clearance issues arising with 18's?

No I havent, I was upgrading to 11.75 rotors at the same time and had to get the snouts turns down to fit the wheel and still use a center cap. At the same time I pulled off the lca's for braces and found I had an oddball driverside lca as well as the pin. Got the control arm yesterday and am waiting on gresable pins from Firm Feel. I am betting I am going to have to limit my steering a little and the wheels you're going to try have even more backspacing so goodluck mang! When I get mt **** together ill post up some pics. Oh yeah im also halfway done minitubbing the rear ARGH!

Sweet! Well I'll wait for you to test fit before I go buy anything. Maybe. Haha

You get a chance to drop a tape on your axle yet? Just curious.

Finaaly bought some sneakers for the wheels:glasses5:

275/35/18 front and 335/30/18 rear. Rears are suppose to be on 11.5 wide wheels minimum but they were quite a bit cheaper than the 295s I was going to get so I went for it. May get the rear wheels widened later on since I have plenty of room still.
