Hey Guys -
I knew the muffler was the first thing that I would need to replace on my new Dart, I just didn't know how soon. Last night on the way home the muffler let go and I'm looking for a low budget quick fix until I save up to change the whole exhaust system.

I'm thinking of throwing a little cherrybomb up under there (225 /6) and was wondering if you guys knew what the muffler i.d. and o.d was. Maybe I can grab a glasspack or even a cheapie muffler on the way home tonight.

Thanks for your help!

well its not a new car by any standard you may want to do alitle measuring under the car just to be sure on lenght inlet/outlet possition and tubesizes.
i have worked with exhausts for about 10years and its almost impossible to sell the right muffler based on application on anything from the 70´s or older always best to check first :(

might add that a cherrybomb or thrush usualy makes a leaning tower of power sound sweet :)

Loud exhausts are fun for about a week, then they get old. Especially on an inline-six engine, a "turbo" or other "performance" muffler will set up a drone that'll cut right through you at 55 to 70 mph, right where you want to cruise on the highway. Forget it, if you value your sanity. Also forget about a stock-size muffler; the original ones were way too small for the job -- they were specced that way, together with the undersized 1¾" pipe, for reasons of cost. The original muffler was a 7¼" by 3¾" wheezer.

See this thread for ideas on muffler selection for a slant-6 A-body.
