72 duster Build progress
I should be finishing up the metal work but I have been procrastinating LOL ......Ill get to it eventually.
however....I have been getting some stuff done anyhow.
I poured muratic acid on the trunk floor and let it dissolve some of the rust scale on the metal where the previous owner had removed the spare tire well and put in flat sheet steel.
cleaned everything up,hit everything with the grinder and wire brush. I found a few soft spots on the passenger side of the trunk floor that I am going to have to build a patch for but its not to big of a deal.
whipped out the torch bottle and made easy work of getting the old seam sealer out of the nooks and crannies.
then I hit it all with a heavy coat of rust stopper
this I used a crappy brush to put it on so its not the best fir an finish job but I was not looking to make it perfect....just protect the metal....I am going to be doing a finished carpeted trunk anyhow .
Then I pulled out my seam sealer and smeared down all the seams and welds and what not.
I did not paint or seam seal the section of the trunk floor yet that I need to make a patch panel for....I will after I make and install the patch, I just wanted to keep the metal protected until I get around to it because after stripping it down to bare steel it will flash new rust in no time.
also after the entire thing is coated in rust stopper and seam sealed I think I am going to paint over all of it with a old school spackle paint or something of that sort.
then after I did that.....I was looking around my garage and noticed I had bought everything to dye my backseat a few months back and I figured it was about time I got that done and out of the way.
so I set my 2 sections of back seat aside,poured soapy water in a bucket, pulled out a scotch bright pad (used it as my scrubber.....it lightly scuffs the surface for better adhesion all the while scrubbing any dirt and grime away), then I wiped the seats down with a dry rag, let the seats dry,then pulled out another rag and soaked it in surface prep (wax and grease remover) then scrubbed the seats down again, then wipred dry, then let air dry. Then I used a can of adhesion promoter clear primer and layed a few coats down. let that all dry, then pulled out the cans of vinyl dye and went to work on it. let it all dry, installed them....and they look GREAT!. now my interior is about 90% or more done.
I forgot to take some pictures of the seats prior to getting to work on them but you get the idea of the transformation.
I know some people do not like using this stuff and prefer using SEM brand....but I have honestly had great luck with this stuff.....its all about the prep work you put into what you are dying.
not in really any particular order....and sorry for the cell phone pics....hope you guys get the idea of what I have been up to.
