Ford 302 vs 318

I have always been perplexed by the reputation 318 recieves. I own a 5.0HO in a Mark 7 and must admit it has more punch than my mild 318 in my Dart. However if I can just do a little more with the 318 I feel it can be much better than the stock 5.0HO.
