The thing you need to do is mock it up and measure the depth of the pilot hole, it might be deep enough.
IF the hole is undersize, the easiest way around this is to NOT use the older bushing that goes in the original bore, but rather use the new one which fits in the large torque converter pilot. These come in either bushing or roller bearing
