Of course, there was nobody within 2 miles of me so the only person I endangered was myself.

Traffic laws aren't circumstantial. The speed limit is the same whether you're alone or in traffic.

Also, police officer do have some discretion in these matters. The outcome is usually based on your demeanor.

The question becomes: Did you break the law?
