tailshaft length questions?

1970 dodge dart swinger factory /6 3 speed column shift, looks to be factory trans installed in it guessing it is a muncie have not got my hands on a castin number as of yet due to the layers of dirt and grease on the trans.. tried putting a spectre 3 speed floor shifter and was unsuccessful the bracket hits the body reinforcement for the floorboard when attempting to mount it on the tail shaft bolts, the tailshaft has no shifter mounting bosses on it what so ever. will get some pics in the morning. I may have got the column shifter working will know when linkages are back in in the morning. the 3 speed has a 15 inch tailhousing length.

thanks sean

Your trans is probably a 903.....top cover.....side shift. A real weak trans in my opinion. They were made for column shift 6cyl. cars only so trying to adapt them to floor shift is asking for trouble. If you want a good floor shift 3 speed trans, get a 230 model. They came behind 6's and 8's and have bosses for a factory shifter to mount and are heavy duty enough to handle some horsepower. Mopar did not use Muncie transmissions.....
those are GM trannies. You might also look into an 833 4 speed for a slant 6. A bit more money but also a very good transmission and about the same amount of work to convert over.
