Clearancing for ARP Main Studs
This thread pops up from time to time and I promised pictures of my engine. When you use ARP main bearing studs there's a clearance issue with the oil pump housing and the back main stud. I had mentioned that my machinist back-cut the cap and shortened the stud. A 12 pt. nut helps with clearance too.
Here you can see where the left side stud area has been sliced. Considering how deep the rear main cap is that 3/16ths. of metal will be negligible.

Remember, I just held the pump on for these pictures. There's no gasket, or clamping for that matter, to show the exact clearance between the stud and housing. It's tight.
