Pinion seal

Hello folks maybe someone could help me out,just bought a pretty clean 72 Duster 340 that has a 8 3/4 rear that has a leak from the pinion seal.Went to replace the seal,marked everything only to find out that the nut that holds the yolk on, was on not even hand tight.Any one have any ideas on how to get this back together correctly?thanks
