11 second street car?

-
I totally agree. Thats why I put a stout bottem end in my 440. Because I also have a nitrous plate on the car for those "holy $hit!" moments haha! I am happy with how the car runs without it, but I have the kit on there just in case.

Yours sounds like a very simple and effective combination too. Would love to see a video if you have any.

It really is. And its very dependable. This is the only video I have of the car at the track. The first pass the car fell on its face when I nailed it, second pass it was good to go!

That's pretty cool. Damn yall are lucky. Look at that backdrop you get to race against. That's awesome.

if your going to build a stroker, put a cam in it to take the chance to put the engine to its full potential. 450 from a stroker is not that much. When I see stroker and spend money like that it should make at least 500hp.

Yeah, you need to bring that thing up here and see how it runs. Totally different ball game.
HP estimates don't work at my track. What kinda money do you think I spent, anyway? I'll bet it's less than you got in that, and mine is running.

??? Mines not running because I also want to paint the entire car or it would be back together and running. Ive spent prolly 4-5k rough high estimate. All labor was done by me and people I know who do machine work and rebuild transmissions.

you missed the point, 73. talkin smack about my 408 making "0nly" 450 hp. I never said how much it made, only that with 450 hp you can get in the 11's. If you ever get it running, I can show you what 450 hp can do if you're up to it. I'll pull one plug wire.

what point? my last post said I was not trying to bash anyones setup, if you read it. Might as well pull 2 plug wires lol. I really dont care how much you make. all i was saying is go with the setup your going to be happy with because your going to want to go faster. end :banghead:

Fst73, 66 has a point. Take it from his veiw. I see it the same way. You did talk smack and it is a form of bashing.
66, I know he didn't mean it that way, as in pint a finger and laff. It's just the way it came out.
Both of you's guys let it drop. This is just a bad road were on. Were all goodfellas here.

Well back to what this thread was about to begin with](*,). Again, thanks everybody for all the insight. I learned a lot already. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like i will be getting the car. I thought money was going to work out a bit different then it seems to be. I could probably swing the car purchase, but with no cash to put into it, which kinda kills the fun. Add the fact that im trying to grow up a little and finally buy a house to keep all the stuff I already have. Sooo, it doesnt look like its gonna happen right now at least. But thanks again for the help, and hopefully someday I will get a car.

Well, a house is the first thing a car guys needs, take it from me, a 2 car garage is the min. you'll want to start with. If you have only one project car.

You'll also love your first years tax return. (KA-CHHING!!!!!!!!!)

IF the house is in good shape, needing nothing or very little, then a car may yet be in your future.....aaaaaaa, WHO am I kidding. A house is the biggest thing you'll allways spend money on....even after your "Done" LOL!

Good luck in the house hunting! Remember, 2 car garage!!!!!!!!

Haha, im sure your right. Hopefully, a car will come sooner than later. But thanks for the insight, and ill keep that 2 car garage in mind for sure!

agreed, I have a 2 car garage at the parents house and there is so much room to do anything :)

you want to go 11s? build a real sold bottom end for the 440. good rods and a nice light wieght forged piston. 6 months of going 11s and you will want to go 10s. i went 11.80 in full street trim with steel wheels bench seat comlumn shifter a "heavy" dana full exhaust, with stock bb heads, 9.2:1 compression, stock steel crank, stock ly rods. sure you can go fast with a sb. no doubt. hell you can go fast with anything. chevy, ford, import, even a lawnmower. ive seen 440 a bodies go in the 10s with stock heads, crank, and rods. a BB a body is a bolt in deal these days. there are a few different header choices, im on my 3rd one. core prices are about the same, and the cost to build isnt that far off from one another. to keep things simple i always try to see it like this, a decent street motor makes about 1 hp per cube, why not go for the most cubes available. i never built a sb stroker so im not familiar with the costs involved, but how does the cost of a 408 compare to a 440?
just something else for you to think about.

I say big block, I am kinda partial tho lol. I have a 440, 30 over, 10 to 1, .519 lift, 440 source aluminum heads, edelbrock single plane intake, shifting at 5,800 rpm car runs 11.80's all day long. 3.73 sure grip 8.75. Full interior, full of gas, and drive it to the track and back home on drag radials. Now the install of a big block is a bit more complicated into an A body thats for sure. The biggest expense would be the headers. I'm sorry, but you just can't beat the torque of a big block.

I like the way you think.

Just go with a BB. I have a 451 stroker(400block) and it cost me about $4300 to build it. everything aftermarket forged inside. #516 heads(stock) 11-1 compression, and shi**y manifolds. edly dual plane intake manifold. alminum waterpump. edly 750 carb. summit spark box. and had it dynoed at 453hp 437 torque. the only problem is exhaust when it comes to BB's in Abodies. which seems to be themost expensive/ main problem. an no, they're not bad when you drop them in. again, just exhaust issues. so go BB.... IMO

Go to http://www.bigblockdart.com/techpages/techindex.shtml

and follow the directions to using cheap regular headers into a B body. I used my old Headman Elites which are the same as the regular Headman headers just coated and with thicker flanges.

The headers went in with a helping hand and without to much headache. I would certainly (Now that I have been there and done that, I would certainly remove all the front end linkages just for installation purposes and re install them after there bolted in.

Then clearancing the headers (READ - Hammer - dent - minor) becomes a lot easier. A LOT easier.

First...Brian from IMM can ship a motor anywhere in the continetal USA for $150.00 so having him build it and ship it is no big deal.
Second...I dont think you NEED to stroke a SB to go mid 11's. Yes,it would be easier BUT it would be more expensive.

Good point Mike.

A stroked engine is nice on a few fronts. More torque, you'll make peak HP at a lower RPM, the engine works a little less, less effort. But all this comes at the cost of extra money spent on the stroker kit.

A stock 360 can run 11's easy enuff and remain streetable. Maybe a little less streetable than a stroker engine, but it can be streetable non the less.

Follow the 3C's and give it some gear. You'll go, YOU'LL GO!

360,.030,balanced stock crank/rods,10.5-11:1 comp.a nice spec'd hyd-hyd roller cam,ported X/J heads,airgap and a 750 dp will get you 450-475hp easy and in a A-body should run mid 11's easy and be pretty reliable.

I'm in Pittsburgh and Brian built my motor. Shipping is no big deal.

Not a BB fan. I stomped them all summer long. No offense. If I have a BB then I want 700HP.

My 410 Dyno'd 519HP and 538 ftlbs, and it feels like more. The torque is incredible. It's in a 4 speed Demon with Cragars and a full damn exaust and runs in the 11's. A real street car. Console, heater, backseat, drag radials......factory suspension(although "tweeked").

I think with slicks and a good 904 with a brake and the right converter, It'd be a 10.7 car. But I digress. I like to shift.

All the above is just my own opinion.....do what YOU like. Don't please anyone else
