just curious, because sometimes i think my engine was installed rearward of the "proper" location.
I want to get some headers, but the engine's fore/aft position may affect that, and i wanted to check on this BEFORE i purchased them.

mine sits with the back of the mopar aluminum valve covers about an inch (if that far) from the firewall....actually...that's the passenger side....the driver's side sits right against the wiring block.

just measured 2 things:

there is an indented part of the firewall (looks about where the heater sits against). From the rear center valley pan bolt, it is 3 1/2 inches to the sunken-in part of the firwall.

Also, from the firewall surface where the master cylinder is, it is 23 1/2-24 inches to the water pump mounting surface (if you drew an imaginary line out toward the fender)

It does not appear that i'd be able to get anything on the top tranny bolts to remove them if i ever had to.

hope this is clear enought for some of you big-blockers to measure what you have

If the trans crossmember and mount are unaltered then the fore aft position is correct. The upper belhousing bolts are removed from below after dropping the rear of the trans, with a long extension and swivel socket. Its actually easiest to take engine trans and Kframe out the bottom together.

witht his being my first mopar and knowing nothing about mopar, i do not know if the cross member os unaltered......i'll see if i can get a picture of it
