hi all-
i have been looking for a lancer for awhile and finally bagged a pretty good one i think. haven't had a project car really, only a '74 dart swinger many years ago that i didn't give enough love to. maybe i'm trying to make amends now...either way, i have some work ahead of me, just not an overwhelming amount, which is probably best for my mechanical skills.

anyway, i would come here looking for one for sale and since this site seems like the best place to study up and share a bit, here we go.....

believe it or not (and i believe it now after seeing it) this car has 6K original miles on it. as the story goes, it was owned by a retired guy who bought it in '61 in st. louis. he drove it to the grocery and other short trips for 13 years, then passed away. it went into storage until around 2009 and was sold to the guy i bought it from who isn't a "mopar guy" but found a gem. that's the story anyway....but when it arrived last week, included was a binder that had the original bill of sale, grocery market flyers (presumably put under the wipers or whatever and were just left in the car) and a dodge coupon booklet! this car is still under warranty :-D . there are hood and trunk issues, but other than that everything is here (except the whitewalls, which i guess were stolen at some point), and it runs pretty well. wish i could say i got an awesome deal, but it was under $4k, which seems reasonable- you can tell me otherwise and i won't take it personally.

anyway, looking forward to getting schooled by everybody here....

Looks to be in pretty good shape. A little paint and it will look great.

...my apologies, those photos seemed imbedded last night....now you have to click on them. i'll try to fix that (newb alert).

ETA: FIXED. sort of. have to resize engine and interior photos.....

Welcome to FABO. Cool find. If it truly has 6000 miles, I wouldn't paint it. It's only original once, and it looks to be in great shape.

Welcome!! Which 6 banger does it have -- the 170 or the 225? could also have an aluminum 225 which would make some people drool.

The car looks good, really like the side shot with the dog dishes>

You found a nice Lancer! I like the red wall tires! I have had my Lancer for sale for a while, but I am having second thoughts about selling it. Nice find.

thanks! you guys are great.

that is a dilemma that i asked in my first thread here: to paint or not to paint....still unsure.

yeah, i was eyeing yours.....that black is exactly what i was trying to get. i was seriously considering yours but i was digging the idea of finding a push button though.

also- did everyone here know there's a way to search craigslist all at once? there is! rather than clicking on each town, go to mycraigsfinder.com, plug in your search words (i put 1961 dodge lancer, 1962 dodge lancer, or just dodge lancer) and you get nationwide results. i swear i don't work for them, it just made finding my car easy once i found that site. honestly, there aren't many lancers out there, and when little came up here, ebay, or hemmings, it made all the difference.

thanks for the warm welcomes!

a few more.......

by the way, those heater buttons on the right are all tight....anyone know the trick to loosening those?

i thought I had a picture of the vacuum controlled -- heater switch. i would spray some wd-40-- or similar-- the plastic is probably stuck-- spiders/bugs/ etc-- also if you have an air compresser-- just forcing air around the buttons sometimes helps.
start with the spray lube first,( do not use carb cleaner-- or brake kleen) Lawrence

Welcome to fabo! Looks like you got a great deal on the Lancer, a little paint work and you will have an almost new 61 Lancer. Love that body style.

Very Nice find and welcome to FABO I myself recently purchased my A body and am slowly but surely falling in love with it more and more each day, I look forward to your future post, and as far as what you paid as long as you are happy that is all that matters ,like another very knowledgeable member told me these cars will never break the bank as very rare collector cars and as long as you and the wife or girlfriend are happy with what you paid that's all that means anything. Me myself paid way more for my 65 than its worth but I love it and it was my money LOL

thanks for the tip. i'll try that tomorrow.

thanks everyone for the support....i'm pretty geeked really. my car knowledge and experience is pretty spotty but i hope to figure some things out along the way.
however, i think one of the first things i need to do is check the brakes and that has me a little freaked out. there is a lot of pedal there and the master cylinder is wet on the outside at the bottom.....might need to enlist my uncle to help on that one.

also- what is the difference between the 170 and 770? trim?
also, also- is there a thread already about BASIC stuff concerning lancers?

Some differences between a 170 and 770 are, more chrome/stainless trim on a 770 and the upholstery patterns are different also. I'm sure there are other little things too.
