"long snout pulley"? The non-A/C cars used a ridgid fan with a spacer whereas the A/C cars used a fan clutch that acted as a spacer also. If you're looking for the best air flow and trouble free operation, I use a ridgid 7 blade fan and forget about a clutch fan. You lose a tiny bit of horsepower and get a bit more noise, but I can live with that knowing I have better air flow and won't have to worry about a clutch locking up or coming apart and sending the fan through the radiator.
