Post up your cheap paint jobs!

About $1200 for the primers, filler and a gallon of shelf stock Candy Red enamel from local auto paint store. No clear.
Bodywork took me 6 months of grueling work, but the paint was inexpensive!

There are definitely some nice paint jobs on here, showing that for a driver you can do it & do it relatively inexpensively. And xlexi is right, it's the body work underneath and prep that's done. In my case, after all the body work was done, primered and blocked out it was "months" before the paint was done. It worked out for me as I had plenty of other work to do. I painted it all in pieces except for the clear, I hung the doors and fenders before painting the black and putting the stripes on, I cleared over the stripes.

How's it holding up you ask? Can't say yet. It was painted in the early summer of 2010 and I just last week got it on the road. What a feeling!

You might want to check out some of the systems that TCP Global puts out. Usually they have a top coat kit and starts pretty cheap. You can get a single stage kit for like$100.

$40 bucks, the prep work was spilling my beer on the hood. FWIW I just wanted it to be one color.

heres mine. spray cans in the driveway. dupli-color metal specks paint, and cans of primer. cost about $150 and it was done with the intention of eventually getting guns and doing it right. obviously before and after

I painted my car for about $400 in paint and primer. DuPont Omni black base, Eastwood epoxy primer, evercoat filler primer, Matrix clear coat. I painted it myself in my garage.

yep, you have to do your due diligence on the prep work, it took me a long time to get to the point where it would accept paint, but thats true whether you are using rattle-can krylon or the most exspensive paint from house of color.

I didnt want to lose focus in that paint thread. But I had some questions on your interior. What are the seats out of? And is that a Rocky mountain dash? I love the clean look you have.

The seats are procar from summit racing, gauges are autometer.

This was another budget job I did. $99 bodyshop cheap paint job (10 footer), $80 swap meet scoops, $350 interior, about $30 in Krylon paint.

I like what you did with making door panels. Can you explain how you did it?

I used the stock panels as a template on 1/8 Masonite board, cut them out, bought some craft store art foam in a roll, spray adhesive, bought some close out black vinyl, laid out a pattern I liked, cut out section with a knife, then laid the vinyl over it all, took about 3 hrs total.

Thats what I am talking about.
Been looking for a cheap way to make nice door panels.
How did you attach them to to door?

FYI Duplicolor makes a vynal paint in many colors.
Just scrub real good with soap and water, wipe with laquer thinner and shoot.

Fantastic. This should be a sticky in the interior section (if its not already).

I've been planning something like that. How firm is that foam? Hard to answer but I don't know how else to ask.

It's pretty firm, I used 1/8", but next time I would use 1/4", make it stand out a bit more

ok 1/2 gallon of mud (i friggin hate bondo and sanding lol) -50 bucks, 1 gallon of y2k high build primer 110 $ and a 1 1/2 gallons of tcp global single stage electric blue metallic 100$ (i still have a little of each left over) and about 5 days total filling and sanding ... this was on a major budget and i still havent buffed it out. i have never shot a metallic before, there are no runs but a few spots were not as heavy as i would have liked, all in all it didnt turn out to bad. its not going to win any awards but from what i started with.. well decide for yourself...
