So, why do rocker shafts cost 220-250 dollars???!!! What in the world is going on? I seem to remember chrome shafts for 50 bucks a few years back, can anyone tell me where to get a decent deal on some shafts for my 318? I got new rollers from Ohio Crankshaft, and they are nice! But I gotta get new shafts, and it is crazy that they cost twice what I paid for the rockers! 600 plus for headers that fit, 400 for retro roller lifters, there's gotta be a way for the humble steel framer to get what I need for my build!

Seal Power also offers shafts for about $30 a pair any local Parts store should be able to order them for you. They're made in China, lousey finish, soft but you want cheap.

I don't know where your shopping but I've never heard of rocker shafts for $200, I think Harland Sharpes are only about a $100?

You got new roller rockers for $200?
I'll bet they're bang on the money, the best Hop Chow Suey can build.

The last set of 1.5 chinese arms I checked for a customer ran from 1.42 to 1.68 the screws we're so loose you couldn't even get a constant adjustment on the checker bar.

We just pulled a set of "High Quality" chinese arms off a set of BB Vic Jr. heads. The adjusters were so bad they loosened up after 1-2 passes, spit the pushrods out a couple of times, finally the harmonics killed a brand new set of Isky SP springs and it tagged all the valves. He saved $700 by going with the cheap arms, it cost him $3000 to fix the damage and still ended up buying a good set of Harlands rockers. I enjoyed the "Told you so" and running his credit card. He's just lucky he didn't scatter the motor.

Looks good?
NO such thing (Unless you happen to be Superman), measure, test, inspect you'll figure it out.
A quality set of rocker arms will cost $400- $600, they'll last for years, won't create valve train harmonics, won't kill the guides, springs and locks. Go cheap and it'll cost you big time over the long haul.

....and speaking of "Looks Good", to the trained eye that stuff doesn't look good! These peddlers of these Chinese parts are just preying on the unknowing consumer.

How does that old saying go......"Investigate before you invest"

i got a couple sets of speed pro adj. rollers...no trouble yet, but any experience with them 66273cuda?

Allway but allways go with a manufacture that has a great rep.!!!!!!!

Harland Sharp, Crane. Don has some really nice parts. Pay the piper once or pay twice, if not more.

I got my rollers for less than 200, and I got them from Ohio Crankshaft, and I thought they said made in USA, does anyone know otherwise? As far as the shafts, I am not mistaken, induction hardened shafts are 200+ from comp cams, and mopar performance. They are not the same as chrome shafts, which are much more cost effective, but I did not say I wanted CHEAP, I want FAIR. There is a BIG difference. I can tell you this, as well, I was a cnc machinist for 4 years, union trained, and by my micrometer and calipers when I say the rockers look good, I mean what I'm saying. I might have been born at night, but it wasn't last night. I have been doing this for a minute or two, and I am well aware of the cost and quality of fine products made by such great companies as competition cams, and etc. but as a father of four living in the silicon valley trying to make a living as a steel framer and I make damned good money, too, 35+ an hour, I STILL cannot afford to get their products, unless I want to make my build a 2-3 year affair, and at 41 years old I would like to enjoy my hot rod while I still have a life left, so preach to someone else about your high end parts, I started this thread because I'm sick of it. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but when they quoted me over 1500 dollars for everything needed to do a cam swap to one of those new retro roller cams I almost fell off my tool box. Can you dig that?

stroker, I'm with you! It seems like there is no in between when it comes to price and quality. I know you get what you pay for but, I would think that there would be a good alternative to the high priced stuff out there. Seems like almost everything coming from China/Japan and the such is just pure junk from all the comments I read. I guess If we want lots of low priced parts we should build a chebby or ferd:( I think that's the whole issue, not as much demand so less competition, less suppliers, they get to demand their own prices since there is no other alternative.

take a tour of ohio's website, they make all their own stuff. These may not be t&d's but for a street machine these are pretty nice. They have nodular cast cranks for strokers very reasonably priced, too, made right in Greenville, Ohio. I don't even eat chinese food, ok? Well, Mr. Chau's is pretty good, but...LOL...I don't want to take all this too serious, sorry, I just felt a wee bit insulted before, so I hope you will all forgive me. Doug Herbert's has bare Edelbrocks for 499 right now, too. Good price!!

I agree, there doesn't seem to be much out there for the average hobbyist trying to build on a budget. Maybe some day we will be catered to but that probably won't be any time soon with the prices of everything including basic needs soaring. Just my 2 cents worth.

That's my arguement when it comes to purchasing TTI headers. Either spend $700, or buy a set of Hookers for $375...THEN replace them with the TTI's. I spent over $1,000 on headers by buying the Hookers and then TTI's. If I bought the TTI's first I would have had $300+ left over.

Say, for a good set of roller rockers....

I went thru that with the MP ignition. $300 later, a then another ornage box, (which cost me two tows home), I called Don at FBO and bought his system. The entire MP kit was crap. Thru Don, I sent my dist to his affiliate in Calgary AB., to have it curved properly. Instead of all my timing in at 1700 rpm, I now have 15* initial and 34* total at 2800, And it screams!!!! Sweet!

Same with the AFB and all thier claims. Could have bought 2 new Holleys for the same cost.

You don't have to buy anything from Don. I really don't think he cares.

He's been racing before a lot of us were even born. I called him once in the middle of the day, and he answered me on his cell phone and help out on the spot!

Yes this hobby has gone out of wack with prices and lousy products and all their claims.

That why we meet here, right?
