Unported head quickness?
I had a 73 Charger once, 440, Torker intake, 850 Holley, 1.75 headers, .484 purple shaft cam, stock valves, springs, rockers, pistons you name it. Car weighed 4200, 4.30 gear and a high stall factory converter (10.75" IIRC) and 9" slicks with SS springs. It went 13.00 through a 2.5" exhaust system and 12.80 uncorked.
Later we pulled the heads and using the MP porting templates ported them ourselves and went 12.00 uncorked. That's a .80 second drop on the cheap as those templates didn't cost but about $48. Later I put the .590 cam and better springs and rockers on it, the 2.14 intake valve and with a Fairbanks 9" converter and 2.125 headers it went 11.50's. That was a lot of money for only a half second.
I get the gist of the thread Rob but in my opinion dollar for dollar porting is a much better bang for the buck than a lot of other mods. And you can do a mild port job yourself with minimal tools. Just don't touch the floor unless you know what you're doing.
Just sayin...
