I haven't measured but I don't think the Dakota rears are any shorter than a full size truck rear. They just put those wheels on them that are almost all the backspace as the width. Plus they put 6 bolt axles in them. A pain in the *** all the way around.

I haven't measured one either, they may not be much smaller. The 6 bolt axles are the later models though, early Dakota's (87-91) had a 5 bolt set up. Still, you'd probably be in the same boat of having to narrow it anyway.
