The 70 Duster......
I guess I am like most car guys. I get the idea from time to time that..."This is the last one". It just never works out that way! I have several other cars in line that I want to get redone. Even though I have only bought 1 or 2 cars over the last couple of years. I am always looking for cars and parts. Probably would have bought 3-4 other cars since moving but can't justify it since I can't seem to find a body man that will hold their end of the bargain.
The body man working on the Charger started out that he was just going to reskin the top. The previous owner cut a small section of rust (from the vinyl top holding moisture) just above the drivers windshield area. The body man wanted me to advance him some money on the Duster (which he was working on a little at that time). It would have left me only owning a few hundred dollars on the total bill with not even half the work done so I was not comfortable with that. The bodyman asked if I had any small jobs that he could tackle real quick, like patch panels or anything like that. I sent him over to look at my cars and we agreed that he would reskin the Charger roof (about a 2 week job) for $800. Then once we agreed to that, the body man said. "Being the car is so straight why don't we just go ahead and repaint it while I have it." He said it would it would only take about 6-8 weeks to complete. In the grand scheme of things 6-8 weeks was not going to be a big hassle. So I agreed on the Charger paint job. I was not planning for it to go on for over a year. If I would have even thought that was a possibility, I would not have agreed to the Charger deal.
Now for the wife. She likes and enjoys cars and has no problems with them at all. We go to cars shows, swap meets and all that together. Also if it was up to her we would have already sent another car (which see claims as her car since I bought it on her birthday in 05 or 06) out to a full service Mopar only resto shop. I just can't see paying that kind of money on the car. So we have talked about selling off a few cars to purchase a more "high end" car. Only time will tell.
Location....now in the "DFW area" and I will change my profile!
