Does anyone know of a shop that can rebuild the voltage limiter on a rallye dash. If you are wondering, the vl is built into the gas guage and is not a separate plug in item found on non-rallye dash's
During a professional restoration done in MA a few years ago, the shop installed new harnesses, interior and all new body work but then someone installed a gound wire from a switched hot in the fuse block to the body behind the driverside kickpanel. Needless to say, now that the car was finally put back together and we attempted to fire it up for the first time, the fuseable link started smoking so we shut it down immediately and took some time to find the short.
Unfortunately, all gauges now pin in the run mode plus a whole other host of issues, front flashers flashing in run mode regardless of fourway on or off but stop when you step on the brake pedal. Too many other issues to list but most likely will need new harnesses again and rebuilt limiter. The limiter according to what I have researched must be rebuilt by pro shop as is only a piece of bi-metal but is integral in the gas guage housing.
